    Newbie to playing live

Video only casino near me. First time sitting down at a blackjack table. I didn't want to lose a bunch so I put in $20 Just to have fun. Only played $5 hands straight didn't play any side games offered. Within about 20 minutes I was up $60 and cashed out and left. I can't imagine it's always that easy to win? I was playing by the books nothing fancy. There was only two other people at the table and the guy next to me was up $150. I'm not a huge gambler but if I can play $5 min hands and make $60 In a half hour I think that's a good profit? I know I won't always win. Thoughts?

You were very lucky. Unless you're playing with some kind of advantage (card counting, for example) you will lose money over time.

Everyone who gets drunk does not become an alcoholic. It is a lot more complex. I know, I am a recovered alcoholic. Gambling addiction is similar, there is usually a predisposition for gambling addiction, and not everyone is predisposed.

    I bit dramatic, I think.

This is also how you get your first thought of actually beating a casino game.

Then you learn how to beat the game.

To the OP, you got lucky. We call that good variance. There's also bad variance, where you lose. every. hand. and the dealer makes impossible 8 card 21s while you're looking at a 17 sitting on a max bet. Unless you learn how to play with an advantage, most of the time you will lose.

First time I sat down at a blackjack table I also bought in for $20, but I only played $2 a hand. After 20 minutes I was broke.

Early wins to a young person often leads to bad decisions, from quitting school to quitting jobs thinking an AP BJ career is the way to go. I cringe when I see young people, college students or in their first job, taking whatever little discretionary funds to a casino. Many have no idea how tough it is, how it can affect relationships or futures.

First time for me. - I was young, and my dad wanted to go to the casino. We went to this low ceilinged smoke filled fire trap. My sessions n roll was a massive $10.00. I nervously flat bed $1.00 per hand, always desperately trying to get ahead. We left, me having lost a full 30% of my session roll. In those days, $3.00 meant something to me.

That's was probably 40 years in better ago. My betting limits have changed since then

When I began counting - I recall winning about 5 sessions in a row, winning maybe $200. I thought I was invincible. A quick dose of reality hit, when I lost the next 5 or 6.
