Going to Vegas, its been 5 years.

I'm going to Vegas later this week. I havent been there for five years, as life and kids has taken priority. I just bought CBJN it looks like there are a lot of crap low end games on the strip, but a lot of good high limit games. I was happy to see that. We are traveling in a group so it will be tough to put in as many hours as I want in the short time im there. I hope to at least play for 10 hours over the two days, and we will have a car. I noticed that several casinos are "database participants". Last time in Vegas I played very conservative with heavy cover and got canned very quickly at a few places. It was very disheartening, and I noticed these places are included as database participants. Apparently I am in the database. I also notice Wynn and Encore are database particiants, that used to be a pretty tolerant place to play. I will be going somewhat disguised, but I might just avoid these places all together. I'm really looking forward to this trip and hope to make it a annual thing.

Table conditions in Las Vegas have continued to transmogrify.

Yes, if you want to get barred, backed off, chips confiscated and otherwise harassed for being a skilled player; then this is the place to go.
Not sure if you paid resort fees last time you were there, but surely you will have to pay this trip. This trip also get ready to pay(you said you have a car) for parking in many places on the strip, that use to be free.
Vegas would be maybe the last place I would advise anyone to go play blackjack!
Almost forgot, you will find many more 6/5 blackjack tables, including 8 deck. Beware of some places where the payout is not written on the felt, sometimes they hide a little 6/5 sign in the corner of the table, behind all the empty drinks(mirage).

There’s still some EV to be found in Vegas, but I have to agree with everyone; Vegas sucks! If you don’t mind a lot of BOs, then you’ll be fine. I just play hit and run everywhere and just expect a lot of back offs when I’m there. I never play rated and never give up ID. On my last trip, I didn’t even step foot on the strip. Strip kinda sucks these days.

The backoffs were so quick 5 years ago I haven't played much since then. It used to be pretty good when i started counting about 10 years ago.

From someone who has made about 5 trips to Las Vegas in the last 3 months, It really is not as bad as they make it out to be. I suppose if you want spread more than 1-6 and play heavy Green or Black, its probably tough but for those who want an EV of about $50 an hour, play reds chips or low Green Chips, its quite good. On my trips, I have played about 80% DD and 20% 6 decks, spreading 1-6 on DD and 2 x 6 at 6 deck but wonging out at TC-2.

The station casinos, El Cortez and Golden Gate and a few others downtown, DD games on the strip, the penn is still very good. I suppose much also depends upon you and your age, personality and such as far as heat goes.

Did you actually spread 1-6 on DD at Golden Gate?

I'm not too worried, I plan on using decent cover with somewhat of a disguise. I will be playing high stakes strip games mostly. Probably short sessions, and drinking. I use a low spread. Thanks for the tips everyone. I expect to be backed off once or twice, and playing some places i havent been in over 8 years.

I agree with Zee. (Who said that?) Do I wish Vegas had better opportunities; sure. I've been playing out of the same hotel for 18 years. Almost 15 of them as a gambler. i play rated there. My wife plays VP. I play at other stores non-rated. After all these years, Vegas is still a holy experience for me. It starts when the plane ride starts to get rough and I look over at the strip. My adrenaline kicks in. I get to play cards for 4 days, hangout in "luxury", eat great food, drink good wine, see shows and do goofy tourist crap. Oh yeah, usually it is free or better. Some people want to go to heaven, I want to go to Vegas. One more thing, opening weekend of NFL sitting in a sports bar, eating emeril legasse food, and betting on games,. Man what a blast.
