    Retirement, involuntary and painful.

    Recently I had finished with a multi-state

700 mile R/T and lost consciousness ‘behind

the wheel’ on a crowded highway. I survived.

I have lived on society’s fringes for so long.

Adjusting to living a gambling-free existence

is very hard for me. I have been a denizen of

the AP demiworld for a very long time.

    I am a Septuagenarian.

    My health is seriously compromised.

    My brain functions are slipping.

    I am a chronic-pain sufferer.

I must make the painful decision to retire

from blackjack and all related activities.

I have numerous (real life) friends who are A.P.’s

and not communicating with them hurts me.

The problem for me is that mentoring card

counters and networking with A P professionals

keeps me involved, and thus prevents me from

fully embracing my avocations so that I can live

through my dotage. Perhaps I can just post here

now and then, with careful editing of course.

When I hit 65, my doctor asked if I was retiring. I said no and he said good. Health is of paramount importance. But, engagement is a part of maintaining health in later years. If you have other avocations that can keep you engaged, that may be enough. If not or you wish to keep in the network, I'd say find a way that requires less travel and/or effort.

I am 69 and its getting tougher for sure. In Las Vegas, I find myself heading to casinos where parking and the walk to the tables is close (and more often than not, it is not). Trips exceeding a 4 hour drive is tough. Trips exceeding 2-3 days are also tough because I sleep better at home and poorly on the road.

There should be a senior friendly list of casinos that factor in ease of getting to the tables. In some, like El Cortez, you park, get on elevator and you are at the tables. At the Mbay, its a long walk and even further at some other places.

Flash, sorry to hear. I'm assuming you had a compete checkup as to the cause if the blackout. Regardless of other health issues, there may be a medical solution to allow continued travel.

Write your memoirs flash. I'd read them. I've only been on here for a few months, but have come to enjoy your stories. Good luck. Stop back regularly.
    Best,

Flash, I wish you the best. Stay active on this site if you can. You have a lot of blackjack knowledge you can still share.

While what prompted your retirement was an unfortunate event (and I’m glad you are OK by the way, i think retirement should be something that is celebrated.

So, congratulations Flash! I’m sure your life up to this point has been great and i hope it continues to be great.
