You know, some counters put in more hours in a year and STILL LOSE MONEY!! You have no right to cry about being ahead.

Lots of fake players on these forums that never actually put in the hours. If I was just some avid gambler who can park himself at a table for hours on end gambling away his life, yes it would just be a 'card game', but this is actual work, driving, short sessions, walking, and still underperforming. Go tell your average worker in the corporate world or blue collar job to take a 50% decrease in his pay after 1000 hours of work and tell him it's just a job. Let me know how this goes. 40k might sound great, but considering all the work I put into it, Im disgusted. Also add in the fact the past 800 hours I've made 18k whereas my first 200 hours at lower stakes I made 20k. Maybe it's a coincidence that when I made my 20k to start off, I was working a normal job on the side and probably added to the peace of mind. Ever since I left that job, I basically made 18k. Maybe the stress of not having guaranteed money coming in has affected my play, but I doubt it.

I see so many other counters who 'supposedly' made all this money and here I am grinding out the hours and get the short end of the stick. Maybe if something else in my life ever went well, I could compensate for this struggle, but everything I do it's like I have to work twice as hard as the next guy just to be even. When will this end? What's even the point of living a life like this? Did I mention I went to a 4 year university, graduated and never was able to even get a job? Just sick of it all.
If you truly want to play this game seriously, for decent stakes, and to win money that is meaningful to you, you need to do two things right away: 1) Study the math of the game, so as to understand variance and the swings that are inherent in the game, and 2) Stop complaining about negative variance. If you can't understand the following, you absolutely shouldn't continue playing: assuming that you will play the game properly, there is absolutely nothing whatsoever that you can do about the variance. So, if you can't live with it, you should find something else to do.

Instead, once you come to realize that the long run is a VERY long time and that you are absolutely NOT "owed" your e.v., you just might have a shot at this.

Not to burst your bubble or anything but I've put in 1000 hours at the table many times over by this point. Maybe your results are suffering because you spend so much time wallowing in self pity.

And the variance is why casinos are stupid to bar counters.

Last year I was 2x EV. This year I'm about half my EV. Variance happens. This article by Arnold Snyder is a sobering read. It will help with your perspective on variance. http://www.blackjackforumonline.com/...t/wontwin.html

Most people who are unhappy with their working conditions and/or pay rate look for a different line of work or a new job. If you are not suited for the AP lifestyle, there is nothing wrong with abandoning that for something else. Many people have tried professions that didn't suit them and moved on to something else.

    zen king is that you

since your playing lowish stakes im pretty sure your not getting 100 rounds per hour cause those tables tend to be fuller then high stakes tables. I play crummy games but i play them almost exclusively heads up which helps alot.

who says you need to play short sessions. Find a way to play long session.

ya that sucks u ran below ev but make sure your game is 100 percent tight. not saying its not but it cant hurt to commit for the next 6 months to pratcie an hour a day at home while watching TV to get better. Learn all your indexes, learn the best count you can learn, Count while talking on the phone to friends ect.. Start getting some free play when you take a big loss, it helps.

I spoke with Zen King privately recently and that’s EXACTLY what I told him. I explained that he needs to find a decent game that will let him camp marathons! I know PLENTY of places that will let you camp pretty good games (6D and DD) for DAYS betting anywhere from 2x300 to 2x500 top bets. Easy!

I pointed him in the right direction for some decent spots that were not too far from him (outside Vegas of course). But I think his paranoia will be the death of his AP career. If he can’t get a handle on that, then he won’t last.

Ryemo, top bet 2x300-500 and can camp for days, you say?

I haven't played BJ recently because I hate all the damn short sessions....but that sounds like something I'd be interested in. Pointers would be appreciated, wink wink.
