When people go to casinos, they are supposed to play by the rules set by casinos. If they disagree, just don't go. My local casinos do a good job to teach ploppies that they can't pick up chips on the ground or play credits others left on slot machines. They don't like the rules and talk about it very much but they follow these rules.

The argument that it's not the casino's money bears noting and the facts and lack of meaningful governmental response to the open records request BEGS some attorney to file a class action.

Seems like a "gotcha" law since prominent posting of the law is not done in the CO casinos (I've never seen that signage).

Akin to taking chips off the BJ table while a player is taking a break? Chips not yours until you take them with you or convert them to currency at the cashier.

    Casinos always want their $.

The concept that you can walk up to a slot, play it and get convicted of a crime, stuns me. Lends a new meaning to the term gambling. Like the crime of having too much cash on hand and out of state plates.

An absolutely ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars. I find it hard to believe that "By (Colorado) law, casinos own lost, forgotten or abandoned 'property' inside their establishments..." Could the Colorado legislature have been so idiotic? For contrast with another state, remember the Romanski case?

Romanski vs. Motor City Casino et al.

The lasting impression this case leaves is one of egregious misconduct -- gratuitous abuse of power, sanctioned by a casino, that left a 72-year-old woman the victim of needless indignities and humiliation. In moral terms, the casino’s conduct was significantly reprehensible; it surely was reprehensible enough to warrant a substantial punitive damages award.

The guy might have been a credit thief. It astonishes me that there are people that walk around the casino all day collecting abandoned credits. When I play off free play, if there are credits on the machine, even a few cents, I always cash it out and set the ticket down next to the machine. Casinos and patrons usually dislike credit thieves and would love for them to be gone.

This is slightly off topic, but in the general realm of "who gets the chips (and cash) if they are unattended."

I recently went to cash out a mix of black and green chips. When I got my cash back and counted it, I thought I was short $100. The cashier recounted the chips, and I had the correct amount of cash based upon her chip count. <She recounted while I watched>

I said "Okay, I just thought I had another black chip." I took my money. I kept wondering if I had miscounted, and was half upset that perhaps the cashier had palmed a black chip on me. I started to leave. Then I even went back into the general cage area and looked around on the floor. Nothing.

As I was headed out the security guard at the front stopped me and said, "Did you lose a black chip?" I was flabbergasted and said, "I cashed out, but thought I was short a black chip." Something like that. He said, "The cashiers cage has it for you.

Went back to the cashiers cage, and without batting an eye they gave me an additional $100 for my 'missing' black chip. I asked where it had been recovered.? Was told a 'slot attendant' found it on the floor and turned it in.

Needless to say, I was thankful that slot attendant was honest, and that the casino made the effort to very quickly locate me.

I had a slot attendant handed me a wad of Benjies that "I had dropped on the floor" at the VP machine I was playing. I thanked him but I didn't think I had lost any money. At least not to the casino's floor. I checked my BR later to confirm. I hadn't dropped anything that I wasn't already aware of were the money went. I appreciate donations to my BR though.
