Children in cars while papa is gambling

On a "business" trip, I parked at a venue. I saw a small child in the backseat of the car next to me. I saw another human form. I opened the back door, expecting it to be locked and, surprisingly, it was unlocked. The girl, probably 3 or 4 years old, was with her mother - also in the backseat.

The obvious inference was that the paternal asshole was inside gambling - of course, I had no idea for how long. I reported it to security as soon as I entered the casino.

I saw something like this a few years ago. It's sad. Really don't know how to comment on this, except to say that - regardless of anything, we do have a duty, as responsible people, to bring issues like this up for discussion.

The mother was in the car. So what is the problem? If the children were alone it would be a crime.

I am not a nanny state type person. I think people should be free to make their own decisions about family and other things. To many people think everyone is to stupid to decide what is best for them so they have the state making all their important decisions. This may be a case in point. But I see the state making far more stupid decisions for people than the average person makes. Laws that limit how stupid you are allowed to be are in place and affect those that can do things that are stupid for others but not them. I guess you are in the camp of people are too stupid to be allowed to be free so the state must regulate every aspect of their lives. In my opinion this type of thought is the end of freedom.

I used to ride waves in every big storm that came by. It was dangerous but I trained to do it and rode waves in hundreds of hurricanes, tropical storms and Noreasters. The life guards wanted me out there because I pretty much saved everyone that got swept out to sea. It would take a lifeguard far too long to get out to the drowning people. Then big brother decided it was too dangerous and wouldn't let me bodysurf anymore. I had to use a boogey board. After a decade or so they started saying you couldn't go in at all. Granted Joe average would be dead out there mostly because they would try to keep their head out of water all the time and panic. The panic would be what kills them. I would swim for 6 hours and go back to my house and eat some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for energy and go back out and swim until sunset. The only danger to me was the floating debris from the storm. Anyway most of the really wild stuff I did a long time ago they won't allow you to do anymore.

Everyone, for themselves alone, are entitled to take their foot, shove it down their own throats and have it come out their ass. I believe you have achieved that here. Mazel Tov.

What people are not entitled ethically to do, is to expose a child to the joys of back seat babysitting, while they are off for hours gambling. The fact that the mother is with their child is not a mitigating factor.

I think it would be an idea for you not to get me started on this.

Now, lets see. I sat in a car with my newborn son, in the back seat playing with him in his child's seat while Mom went to grocery shop and was in almost an hour. So, its okay for a man to sit in a car with a baby outside a grocery store while it is not okay for a woman to sit with her baby in a car in a casino lot? For all you know, the man had to unload a dump or piss or pick up one of those gifts that casinos hand out to ploppies for using their card.

This is judgmental bullshit and stereotyping... as long as an adult is present, its fine and it does not change with the location. The man the woman and child were waiting for in the car could have been an employee about to get off.

What bugs me, as a NY'er, is a mother, four year old child in hand, jaywalking in Midtown Manhattan. She is literally teaching her child to ignore don't walk signs and run into traffic. And this is in an extremely high traffic area. Everyone jaywalks in Manhattan. But, don't teach a small child to ignore traffic signals in a city. I used to play ridiculously long Poker games at one house. When the kids would wander in and become annoying, he would tell them to go play in traffic. But, they were old enough to know he was joking (and was a jerk) and this was in the middle of nowhere. (And I still hold a marker from him from a game 40 years ago.)
