    house edge on side bet

A six deck game has a side bet that pays 11:1 on a pair on your first two cards. I estimate the house edge on this bet to be 15.3% (11 * 7.7% = .847). Is my estimate correct? If not, what is the house edge on this bet and how do you calculate it?

This game has another side bet where if you get three of a kind, using your two cards and the dealer's card or if you get a straight using your two cards and the dealer's card, the payout is 9:1. What is the house edge on this side bet?

the trips probability seems easy enough to calculate, 1 in 13 * 13 or 1 in 169.

as for the straight, you get a card, then there are 16 cards that can continue your straight, and then either 4 or 8 that can complete the straight.

for example if you get a 5, then you can get either a 6 and 4, making u open ended, or a 3 or 7, giving u a gutty.

of course if you get an ace on your first card, then you can only catch a 2 or 3 and they are both gutties

Just the "11:1 pair" on your two cards...

First card is irrelevant, since it can be anything. Assuming a fresh shuffle (so not accounting for removal) that would leave 23 of whatever your card is remaining in the 6 deck shoe for you to hit your pair. 23/311 = .074, or about 1 in 13.5... so you're 1/13.5 to hit, and pays 11:1...

Don't think you have a winning game; know you have a winning game.

When you say 'erroneous', do you mean 'irrelevant'?

    So, if you make 311 $1 bets, you will pick up a total of $12 (11 to 1 payoff) 23 times, for $276, leaving a shortfall of $311 - $276 = $35. The house edge is thus 35/311 = 11.25%. Ouch!!

This is the same as the Baccarat Pairs bet but that game is normally played with 8 decks resulting in a House Edge of 10.36%.

So Side Bet (for perfect pair) is a NoNo?

Not recommended if the Pairs Bet pays 11:1 on all types of pair combinations.
