When Norwegian's Escape came out a couple of years ago, they were supposed to make the main casino non-smoking, since it was wide open to the center of the ship. There was a smaller casino down the hall in which you would be able to smoke. After the first cruise or two, they flip-flopped the arrangement.

Five or six years earlier, they tried smoking and non-smoking days in the casino on one of their newer ships. That didn't last either.

The problem with on/off days smoking/non smoking in the same venue, is that the stench of tobacco permeates the room, and the immediate vicinities surrounding it. This means, even on non smoking days, that your clothes become infected with tobacco stench, as do the various epidermal layers of your body as well as variable Orifices.

This manifests itself by interfering with other activities. Say you've played in the afternoon, feel like a Schtupp before dinner, and you smell like a sewer, and your partner is a non smoker - good luck with that scenario.
