Easier yet - using TKO, I start the IRC at 10. That way I don't have to deal with any negative numbers. If the RC ever gets negative, I'm out of there anyway...

I use Hi-Opt II for DD games and start the RC at 20 to avoid negatives. Works for me...

I use TKO for Spanish 21 and side count Aces. But then I've always been weird.

Interesting. I think I'm more of a TKO kind of guy it seems somewhat less overall burden on the brain whilst still learning to count fast with the robot dealers lol

TKO for Spanish 21. As in Spanish 21 vs American or European? Assuming it's a type of game specifically?

And you can always play "ploppy dumb" in a casino, saying things like "I'll just wait for the next shoe, dont wanna mess up the cards for you guys". If you have a friend, spouse, whatever that can accompany you to the casino, backcounting is feasible too. You simply stand at the table "explaining" how BJ works to your "friend who's never been in a casino" while backcounting the table. When / if the shoe turns positive, and if there's a seat available, just say "I'll show you" or "So let's try it out!", anything like that, and sit down.
Ok that's fair. But I guess I'll have to get more into the reasoning in the literature to determine either choosing to start with 0 rather than -20. And yes. I can be very very good at playing incredibly naive and or just plain ignorant when it comes to excuses and watching the shoe lol

Yeah. If PhillyNewbie started IRC at +50, he would never play a negative shoe.

That downturn resulted from Blackjack not Spanish 21. And since that horrendous run, I have recovered everything plus much more. But thanks for your interest.

    Hi all.
All the posts here have some merit to each and some of them even seems conflict at first look. I would share what I did/doing. Anyone please fell free to give advice/ correction to make my learning better.
That said. Here is/was what I doing. First of, please read the book of Norm's https://www.qfit.com/book/index.htm, very informative and you can using your phone to read it anytime anywhere, then look up the Rome's post on ABC of counting (I could not find the link. please help). Then I get few decks of card and counting apps for my phone like Advantage Blackjack or better yet pay $15 for Norm's app Blackjack Verite Drill. Norm's app is worth much more than it's price. Learning level 2 is not much harder than Hilo or Knockout. I am using Zen, that's it for now, you have couple months to let us know your progress.
    Best wishes.
