Thread: Casino edge question

Splitting is a good idea, in the sense that two hands of ten are pretty strong and you stand to win some money. But staying is an even better idea because a total of twenty is extremely strong. So a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. After all you might not get another good card to go with your tens. You might just get a six. And then you are praying for the dealer to bust, which will happen less than half the time.

Here are a few other reasons where casinos get their edge..ts the websites edge calculator and its one most accurate because its able to factor in how the different rules n play affect each other..At first, i thought it was miscalculating until i read why the numbers where different from other edge calculators..Pay notice to under the "same rules" you actually have an edge on single deck but .43 disadvantage on the 4 deck game. This wlll become an important part of your game if and when you start to count..Nevertheless im happy to see, the improved accuracy of this "edge calculator.."

Your hand of 20 will generally win,
but if you split you are an underdog
in most cases. Do you understand
what the chances are of a dealer bust
    showing a 5 or
    a 6? Roughly 40%
Think about it. With a deuce ... 28%.

Understand that your card counting advantage
leaves you in a position in which you are an
underdog to win your upcoming hand.

Blackjack premiums, doubles, and (some) splits
generate an overall (small) player advantage.

You left out the group of "idiot counters".........LOL

Not sure they are mutually exclusive!
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

Hi thanks for the reply. I have no idea about the odds and stuff like that yet as I've just started. Getting beat the dealer today and hopefully that can give me a good base to work with. Loving these replys it seems like such a detailed thinking game.

I doubt I'd start with Beat the Dealer these days. How about starting with Blackjack Bluebook II by Renzy?

There were no shoe games, no 6 deck games, no Automatic Shuffling Machines when that book was written. It's like learning to drive a car using an Edsel. Get books printed after 1990 and whose authors are still alive and writing.
