    Casino edge question

Hi there first time here and just have a Simple question. I know the casino has an edge with blackjack but I'm wondering where exactly does that come from? Do they have better cards or how does it work? I know it's a dumb question but starting out and just wondering. Thanks in advance.

Because players play their hand first, if player bust first then the dealer also bust, the dealer win the round, not tie. This is where the casino's edge comes from. To make up such a huge disadvantage for players, casinos give player BJ 50% bonus and players can split or double when their initial two cards show promise.

Thanks for that guys makes sense. I have been playing a free game on my phone where you can split more than once, so I get 2 jacks and split then if I get another 10 I can split again. I'm guessing this can't be done at the casino? Thanks.

You can, however, only idiots or counters would split 10s. Hopefully you're the latter!

Some UK casinos probably still demand the same card.

About three years ago, I played at a Pennsylvania casino and want to split two face cards because TC is above +10. The dealer told me I can only split a pair of kings or a pair of queens, not a king and a queen. I asked for his boss. He confirmed it. I know both of them are idiots because I have done it before at this casino. But what can I do?

Simple, avoid that dealer. If all other dealers take the same position, you know that the casino has changed its rules. Dramatically! If not, its possible that other issues might have been in play.

All PA casinos follow the same rule set by state gambling commissioner. If I had pursued, the casino would have got a big fine.

Thanks For the reply guys, I'm aware and picture and tens can be split just wrote 2 tens for example. 1st reply why would it be a bad idea to split? I thought if the dealer had a bad first card that splitting might be A good idea.
As I said I'm new and beat the dealer book is being delivered tomorrow so I'm gonna read that as a starting point.

If you split twenty, you are trading one very good hand for two unknown hands. You can do that if you are counting and the true count is six or higher, also dealer up card is the worst (5 or 6). Precisely, assuming you are using Hi-Lo, normally when one deck (52 cards) left, there are 20 high cards (face and ace) and 20 low cards (2-6). When TC=+6, there are 23 high cards and 17 low cards. You know when you split 20, your odds of getting face and ace again are higher than the normal stances.
