    Heads up advice needed...

Would the experts explain why their answer is correct? For both DD and 6 deck games playing heads up, standard rules, H17, no S.

    when playing heads up.

    1. Playing one hand only is best.

    2. Always play 2 hands.

    3. As much as possible, play 2 hands in positive counts, 1 in negative counts.

    4. As much as possible, play 2 hands in negative counts, one in positive count.

I have utilized #3 but read from a better AP that #1 is best but no explanation. Your comments are appreciated.

With no regard for heat considerations, and without the desire for a long winded explanation.

Your preferred number 3 works best when sharing the table with someone.
Number 1 is best heads up as you get max number of rounds at positive rounds. Spread to 2 only when butting up to table max.
Three will espouse number 2 with a higher EV lower variance explanation. Call it the ole 3-2 punch
Four works well only when you can play both spots at table min VS double min - card eating. Otherwise, why invest 4xmin when expectation is minus.

As for detailed explanations, you'll ask the same info again, and 3 likes long explanations.

I ABSOLUTELY assure you that the swiftest route to being
86'd is switching between the number of spots you play.
It is absurdly simple to forego a skills check in favor of
checking the True Count whenever such a change is made.

Ignoring heat (foolishly ignoring heat?) -- it is best to spread to as many hands as you can get away with in positive count if you can see you are going into the last hand before shuffle.

    when playing heads up.

I recommend only playing one hand when playing heads up, with the exception of when knowing the cut card will come out in the next round anyway, and the TC is positive, but this action may cause a reshuffle "cheating" in a double deck game. The reason I prefer playing only one hand heads up is because the results of both hands tend to lean slightly more equally by the fact that each hand is facing the same dealer up card, and the same resulting hand, but in the process you are eating more cards causing quicker reshuffles. When you have lost five or six hands in a row go ahead and play two to change the flow, giving the appearance of a ploppy, for cover.

I am not sure of that at my stakes. I don't always play 2 spots on positive counts and 1 on negative counts. For example, I might have two spots of $50 each at TC+2, win the hands, TC remains the same and I go to one spot of $75-$100. Similarly, I start of a round at 1 spot of $25 or two spots of $25 each. If winning and TC is neutral or minus 1, I might play 1 or 2 spots of minimum bets.

My thinking is that as long as I have more money out in positive counts, switch up from 1-2 spots and back to 1 spot in random ways, throw in different amounts on each hand now and then, I am seen as an extreme "hunch" player. I have done this, playing rated at both the Lion chain and the horse chain now for a couple of years.

in my opinion, playing rated and with established act, there is far less scrutiny and you can get by with the strategy. However, if playing unrated and at casinos that are not your regular haunts, you are correct that the scrutiny will get you in trouble.

I was playing heads up $25min DD a few days ago at a store I visit infrequently, got down ~$1k after 20-25 min. Got into a good count, spread to two max bets for last two hands before shuffle, recouped more than half my loss and got up and left.

Playing 1 hand or 2 hands heads up makes no difference. Do whatever your little heart desires. Personally I like two.

this is an important point as it affects your ROR .. Unless you have sufficient bankroll and want to mark your spots so ploppies don't come

Nice post. Technical issues aside, Agree with "changing the flow" for that ploppyesque mirage.

Zee, Don not only answered this question for you on the other forum, but also gave you a very precise technical explanation based on the research in BJA3.
