Playing multiple hands is another tool required to manage your proficiency and to manage your risk. It is not a "one size fits all", research it, understand it and use it.

In an oversimplification and excluding playing alone, playing two hands of a total bet amount equal to one hand (2X100 versus 1X200) will reduce your variance by about 25%. This is not insignificant.

Blackjack Attack has chapter with more specific guidance on this subject.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

Playing 2 spots will decrease your variance slightly

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
