    H17 Spanish 21/Pontoon indices?

    Hi all, forum newbie here.

I was just wondering if anyone could supply me with a list of strategy deviations for SP21/Pontoon? Either here or by PM. I cant seem to find them publicly listed anywhere. I use Secret Monkey Count with the 7=+1 and 9=-1 adjustment. The game is H17.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

I did not realize Spanish was an option for AP. Is it a good option?

The variance is a lot more with Spanish 21 than blackjack. Katrina Walker's book is a good intro book for it.

It is a fine introduction and a resource text for recreational players.
The Card Counting System included is a weak but satisfactory count.

Thankyou ZenMaster. Time to get practicing!

Quick question: will having 7 and 9 tagged (+1 and -1 respectively) in an SMC variant affect the indices much? I know their EORs are minimal, but I'm only counting them to help with PE.

The E.O.R. of the 7 is approximately ZERO.
The E.O.R. of the 9 is of some importance.
I count 9's as half the value of a Face Card.

    Oddly and counter-intuitively, in Span21,
    the 8 has a STRONGER E.O.R. than the 9!
    Counting the 8's will render
    a count weak
for playing decisions, so we do not use it.

    These side-counts are beyond superfluous
because the 7's and 8's are of some minor
importance to the playing of STIFF hands,
where the adjustments that I make are
keyed to the potential bonuses that are
intrinsically important to winning at Spanish21.

Of considerable importance is the extreme E.O.R.
of ACES in an S17 game, a la Eastern U.S.A. / Canada.

Would a better approach be to tag 5 as +2 instead of 7 as +1, and keep 9 as -1 (I'm not that good with partial decimal counts)?

Yeah I've read about Aces in S17 games having crazy EOR, like -1.28 iirc. I only have H17 available to me (Pontoon) so the Ace EOR is a fair bit lower at -0.78. So I keep them tagged as -2 instead of -3.

What makes the most (mathematical) sense
is to tag the fours and fives at +2 and sevens at 0
The E.O.R.of the SEVEN is virtually ZERO.

Those E.O.R.'s are far far incorrect.

I've seen that yeah. How would you make that a balanced count without attributing unnecessarily high EOR to the wrong cards though?

    So:

    2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 X A
    +1 +1 +2 +2 +1 0 0 -1 -1 -2

What would you tag as another -1 to balance the extra +1 added to 4? -3 for the Ace in H17 is too much.
