    Pointing out dealer mistakes

Continuing my theme about dealer mistakes. What do you do when you spot another player being paid in error?

I know for sure I would not say a word and believe most other players would do the same.
However, the other night another player really annoyed me when pointing out the blundering dealer's mistake as he was about to pay me on a losing doubled bet of 40.
Now, I subscribe to the unwritten players' code that if a casino wants to pay you some money you should take it. It's tough enough to win as it is and you have to take anything extra that adds to your ev.
There's absolutely no reason to feel guilty about it as the casino has plenty of unethical practices aimed at relieving you of your money and make plenty of mistakes against the player that are not picked up.

There are a host of reasons why another player would correct a dealer's payout error. It's like being stood up on a date.
    1. They don't like you.
    2. They hate you.
    3. They detest you.

I point out a dealer's mistake if it impacts only me. I point out a mistake either way...in my favor or not. However, if the mistake impacts everyone at the table, or just another player, I remain quiet.

I can win without taking advantage of dealer mistakes in my favor. I don't let a cashier give me too much in change, and I don't let a dealer give me an improper payoff. Not sure if there is any impact with the pit critters, but they always know....since where I play the dealer is required to call them over when there is a pay-out mistake.

And if I'm a fool for taking this approach....then I'm a fool. But I sleep well.

Sometimes you can annoy other players (one hand to two, doubling on A,8, hitting against a 5,6 etc.) and then they may get back at you. Sometimes players like a dealer and would not want the dealer to get fired over a mistake. Sometimes, a ploppy believes "do unto others..."

No need to get upset about it, you had already lost the hand.

I piss people off a lot. Often they try to get revenge by waiting until I have big bets out to drop out of the shoe and mess up the flow of the cards and sit and watch for the revenge to eventually take place. Many times they just refuse to play at my table.

I had one casino were everyone would jump into my hot shoe all the time. I trained them all to wait. Now they just watch when I am betting big. I found a few statements to be quite effective but I can't reveal them on the open forum. Adding to that insults if they come in about how stupid it was and how they made everyone lose. The table will often get involved. I have even trained people to do it for me. The psychological aspects of AP play are always interesting. Some people are quite trainable. The dealers love me if I train an obnoxious player that they hate dealing with to never play at my table.

Seems like kevin found some secret "reverse the meaning of a quote" button. Either that or he deliberately misquoted terry.

Great job of misquoting me, Kevin. Obviously, misquotes and fake news extend beyond the White House. Even BJ forums.

Sissy or not, misquoting people is ethically reprehensible.

It is perfectly okay to disagree with someone else. But purposely misquoting another person in a way that misleads others as to what was actually said is not acceptable behavior. The point is, you altered a quote in such a way that it misleads others as what was actually stated. It's a form of lying.

If you disagree, say so. Don't play cute games.

Sorry Terry, sounds like you are a naive younger person that thinks that karma is going to get you if you take the casinos money, when given. Maybe you will get toughened up when some casino actually cheats you for a lot of money, or maybe when get get backed roomed and get beaten up, or/and arrested. I have made ten of thousands off casino mistakes, and I sleep better because of it. Misquoting you made you sound more like a real person instead of a sissy. If you need a box of tissues and maybe a stuffed animal, send me the bill(50$ max)!

Okay, time to end this string. Nothing more is being accomplished.

I will just say that, contrary to the hypothesis, I'm not a "naive younger person." In fact, I'm older than dirt, and have a ton of hours under my belt. BJ has been and continues to be my only source of income....except that now I'm old enough to also draw Social Security. As I said, I'm older than dirt. But still counting, still have a nice income from the game, and still correcting dealer errors even when they benefit me at the table.

I've never been backroomed or beaten up. Backed off---yes. But never bludgeoned. In terms of grey-area ethical decisions, each person makes those decisions for themselves. Your opinions of my own ethical standards are......meaningless.

I know that MANY players take the attitude of "Dealer mistakes are not my problem. In fact, good for me when I am overpaid." Their choice. I do not sit in judgement. Just as I cannot play another player's hand, I cannot make ethical decisions for them. I make decisions only for myself---the way I play my cards, and the way I deal with ethical decisions.

I am finished with this thread !!
