Here's one for you. Over the last couple of years they were advertising a patch for Alzheimer's symptoms, or something to that effect. In the warnings they stated that death could result from using more than 1 patch at a time. What's wrong with this picture?

I discovered this site chess.com which IMHO is really great. You can play against a computer on levels 1 thru 10 and it has tutorials and you can create an account and play against others who are online.

A lot of the stuff on the site, including playing against their computer is free. I'm actually not sure what they do charge for. Everything I've tried to do there has been free.

According to a post from a chess forum the highest level offered to play against, level 10, is the level of a chess Master. The only levels higher than that which are not offered are International Master and Grandmaster.

If a person learns and rises through all the levels, which is very difficult, they would be quite a good chess player.

As you may know, 21 years ago, (this is very old news but some may not be aware of this) IBM's deep blue computer beat chess Grandmaster Gary Kasparov. It was the first time a computer was shown to be able to beat one of the worlds' greatest chess players.

I linked the site and a story about IBM's computer beating Kasparov.

I went up through the various levels on chess.com playing against their computer. I finally won one game against level 6. So, I went up to level 7. The thing is absolutely destroying me. It's beaten me about 100 times in a row. It not only beats me but it beats me fast. It's utterly humiliating. At least I learned how to mute the sound on the site while I'm listening to background music so I don't have to hear its pieces swooping down on me. I'd like to get better at chess but I'm not willing to study the game. You could study chess like you study a college course. To me, that would take the fun out of it. I got pretty good on guitar without ever studying music, for the same reason, and I was wondering if I am ever going to get good enough to match up at level 7 without studying the game. Right now I tend to doubt it.

this is a youtube easy to watch digitally recreated chess match with commentary. this chess match between Bobby Fischer and Donald Byrne took place in 1956. Fischer was only 13.

this match has been called The Game of the Century. Lots of fun to watch this.

as I stated earlier I started playing chess again and go up through the levels against the computer at chess.com and I beat the bot one time out of about 100 on level 7; then I tried level 8 and got crushed every time. I once came close to stalemating it. I knew I was a very long way from being able to play even with level 8.

so I started doing something different. I went to level 9 and played against it by using their bot (the light bulb button gives you a hint.) So, it's bot vs. bot. Level 9, I'm pretty sure is just below that of a Master. Sometimes I change a move or two and if I win after changing the bot's move I get a little bit of satisfaction. Sometimes, my bot mates the other bot and sometimes it stalemates the other bot. Rarely does my bot get mated. It's really fascinating to see 2 great players (bots) go at each other. It's like you have a ringside seat to a great chess match and you can really appreciate the complexity and profundity of some of the moves.

    ......................................

Wow. McDonalds has a promo today for any size brewed coffee such as iced cappuccino for $1.00. And their coffee is very good IMHO - better than Starbucks. I'm saying this and I don't think much on MickeyDees menu is good. Coffee is the exception since they upgraded it. MickeyDees has a lot of financial power to offer something like this.

they never tell you how long their promos run.
