    Terms I don't know

While reading a gambling article, I ran across these terms. What do they mean?

    Lockmaster

    First-baser

    Rod man

I think Lock Master is a tout service. A first-baser at blackjack is someone who sits at first base to better be able to glimpse the dealer's hole card.

I'm not familiar with "rod man."

Off the top of my head, I'd say you need a Boesky, a Jim Brown, a Miss Daisy, two Jethros and a Leon Spinks, not to mention the biggest Ella Fitzgerald, to figure that one out.

"Rod man" is Dennis Rodman with his split personality completely severed.

Ivan Boesky is a swindler extraordinaire and
Jim Brown is a nearly immortal FullBack.

"Among the entrants was Karl’s (Sparks) Hotel & Casino’s dirty dozen – a collection of lockmasters, first-basers, rodmen, theoreticians, card counters, spooks, advisors, hole-carders, basic strategists, couponomists – you name it, every kind of degeneracy was represented. The theme of this assemblage was “the cream will rise to the top.” Karl’s finished last."

It was an article by Peter Griffin analyzing a betting strategy in a tournament. I just want to make sure that I'm at least one or two of these degenerates.

A rod man may be someone who used a device consisting of a rod and wire to rig a slot machine to pay off.

The Rod Man is in reference to one who seeks out visitors, tourists, etc. and tries to guide them, in a sense, towards the cons, or towards businesses owned by others "in the group" where he might get a cut from the sales.

Think, Florida Keys boat guides with their long rods pushing the flat bottom boats across the crystal clear water in search of large catches to "thrill" the tourists. Or Venetian Canal guides (not the casino ones inside). In a vegas sense, these are your flyer-people, your "ground crew", or your "Retail Agents". Driving you into those strip clubs, free/cheap shows with overpriced drinks, etc.
