    Alert -- 11/22

Blackjack tables in A.C. have taken a pounding on several occasions in 2011 - partially due to the multi-million dollar wins of Don Johnson.

To hear a LIVE radio interview with him via your computer mark your calendar for next Thursday -- the evening of Dec. 22 10:00 p.m. EST (7:00 PM P.S.T.)

Thanks for liking the show Flash. Just thought I would let everyone know that this week the guest will be a man named KC. He is a BJ player that took up "Advantage Craps", won $1.5 million, and then lost it all back. He now believes that he was deluding himself and never had an edge at all.

Sounds cool! It's such a hard thing to measure because of its reliance on physical abilities and how hard it is to get a meaningful sample size.

I started listening to the archives last week, I love some of the topics and a lot of the stories are hilarious. The hole-carder with the wheelchair was particularly hilarious

Tthree, I don't know if we will get to table design because I am a basically non-believer. It may be theoretically possible, but I don't think you can make any money at it if you did acquire the skill since the casinos are already barring craps players that I'm sure are losing players. Bryce Carlson, who wrote Blackjack For Blood wrote an interesting essay about dice control which is up on my blog at richardmunchkin.com.

I will also give this show lots and lots of kudos. It's a fantastic show. I get the podcast and have listened to episode after episode on long trips. One excellent use for the past episodes of this show is teaching.

Just another insignificant salamander trying to evolve. Or seek revenge.

If the dice tumble there are 16 possible outcomes (4/die). I tracked tens of thousands of practice rolls for each die, left and right, by using 2 different color dice. I divided the rolls into groups of 24. You expect 2/3, 16 rolls, to be the 4 sides in the tumble for each die. The right die was always between 18 and 23 (21 more typically the top barrier) times out of 24 throws as one of these 4 sides. The left was always between 17 and 19 times out of 24 throws as one of these 4 sides. I do mean ALWAYS. That is a significant change in the odds of rolling any number depending on how you set the dice. I used this to great advantage until casino results were different than practice results. That was for 10 to 15 years. Later I learned the casinos were changing the landing surface at the time my effectiveness failed to generate big profits. I switched to cards as it was easy to earn a profit there at that time.

I don't know what the philosophy these classes teach but when I analyzed the physics of throwing dice, I found making the dice tumble on axis thereby significantly reducing the odds that 2 sides of each die come up was the only way to assure an advantage. I only got banned once and backed off once in about 15 years. Both were on a trip to vegas, most of my play was in AC. I never had a problem there other than the usual efforts to break your rhythm and focus. Can AC casinos bar you?

An interesting oddity about dice. If you put the 4 and 3 on the axis of both dice and tumble them so those sides don't come up you can't roll a 5 or 9. A five is rolled by 4,1 and 3,2 while a nine is rolled by 3,6 and 4,5. Four of the 16 possible rolls without the 3 or 4 rolling on one die or the other are a total of 7. Can you say lay the 5 and 9? Perfection, no chance of losing either bet and win both 1 out of every 4 throws. Of course you will never achieve perfection but you get the idea.
I tried doing a lot of this myself for a while. Had a spreadsheet that I used to track thousands of rolls, although I didn't have a full craps table. I had one of the mobile practice rigs. The results were never conclusive enough for me to put in a lot of real money at the casino with it, but I did show some success. Eventually I became too busy with other things, didn't keep up my practice, and never went back.

Whether or not you have taken sides in the decade(s) old debate re: "skilled" dice shooting, you owe

it to yourself to read the essay that Bryce Carlson has gifted us with. Go ahead. What's stopping you ?

I listen to this show every week (although I sometimes have to catch up after a new episode comes out). It's always entertaining, and sometimes infuriating, like when Bob Loeb was describing the incidents in MI and IN. The show is definitely a great resource.

Thanks for the heads up on the show ZenMaster, I caught it last week and will be listening to the archives. Do you or anyone else have an opinion of roulette tracking?

I M H O ... an utter waste of time ... but I claim little expertise on this "voodoo."

Note: At least in the U.S.A., the tables are frequently checked with a level.
