This is in a similar vein to the question; I was counting at a place where they have 2 cut cards in a 6 deck shoe, 1 at 3 decks in, the other at 5.5 decks. I was counting it heads up and asked (knowing the answer), "Why are there 2 cut cards in there?" The dealer responded, "We shuffle there when we think someone is counting." I just said, "Wow! Didn't know people still do that these days."

I hadn't been preferentially shuffled on all night, and left with a handsome stack.

When ploppies say the most degenerate things that make me want to retort back to them, I hold my tongue, remember what they said, and appropriately say the same thing myself.

If asked if I'm counting again, I think I'd like to try, "no, but my mama said it takes one to know one, so do you count? Is the count good? Should I raise my bet?"

Long time stores , where you become part of the furniture, know you're counting. I once hit 12 v4 twice to end up with a 4 card 21. Dealer yells out - Freightman is counting cards again. As for dumb ploppies, just shut up.

Always treat the Asian mamas with absolute respect and kindness. The house will not tolerate verbal abuse to these older women.

Whether asked if I am counting or not, I periodically and with malice of forethought, will act confused about my hand and ask the dealer to help me confirm that I have 16 not 17, or whatever. It is very persuading that I am an idiot who has trouble counting to 21 much less card counting. If you inject a few of these it will really screw with the pit's mind and slow down the rush to surveillance.

In ten years of playing as an AP, I have never been asked if I was counting.

Just look at the idiot who asked and reply
You know it does not work so cut the bullshit
If he says it works ask him to tell you when to bet big
Also if it works why is the asshole who is asking you not rich himself
Attack and get annoyed but do not retreat

The most annoying thing in my opinion is the psychic ploppies with amazing powers of hindsight who blast you for your (correct) play after the dealer draws and beats their hand.

"Oh you should have stood on that 14 you took the dealer's bust card".

Theres even one cashed up whale who I'm friendly with who does this too. I just say "that was unlucky" or "yeah well we know that now hey" whenever its said. My hand, my decision.

    Stealth,

After reading your second paragraph, I'm confused as to your first paragraph.

Yes, agree somewhat misleading, not the best structure. It would have been clearer if it started with: "Regardless," instead of "Whether asked if I am counting or not,"

What I meant was this is what I do to assuage the concerns of me being an AP. Look like I can't do 4th grade math.

However, I have never been asked if I was a counter, but I have been told by many suits and security people that I could not play anymore or I was trespassed.

Ya learn something new every day. I never knew that about the two cut cards.

I've said things like "Ya know, I've had two tens and stood. The next player got an Ace. Ya know I should have dd on that 20."

I look em right in the eye as my face unfolds into a giant goofy grin as a growing self-deprecating laugh bubbles up up and away

*me? Counting? Oh god if you really..I'm honored really..*
I chortle, as I continue to laugh in their faces.
