Amen brother, preach. Lord almighty do I hit the bullshit button a few times when dealing with PC's.

    PC: Exoter, are you counting?
Me: I tell you what Jerry, I've been counting to 18 and 19 all night, and Kelly here keeps counting to 20-21, any longer and I'll be needing a couple steaks over at the steakhouse if you catch my drift. Wink, Smile.

Works 110 times out of 100 if you're as charismatic as I am, which is really the key more than anything. My partner, we shall call him "Dubbya" has zero charisma. He couldn't charm a fly to land on his plate at the buffet, so when I encourage him to do the whole "Midwest-stern-jokester" thing, he just kind of flinches and fucks it all up and ends up asking if he can take the PC out for a steak or something. /facepalm, somethings you just can't teach.

That's one reason I can still play at my nearby place. Though I've taken more out than I've put into the place I usually wait until Reno to make the bigger bets. However, yes I do tip dealers and cocktail waiters/waitresses. It seems that they are more tolerant if you do. I know, EV, EV, EV. But I think it does help longevity in some places. Plus I don't want to burn out the place. As I've mentioned before everyone there knows I count.

If they ask: "Hey Bigdaddy, what's the count?", I'll just look at my pile of chips and say: "looks like a few hundred here..."

This is actually a good one. It is quick, makes sense in the context, and makes you look like a moron (unlike some of the other advice).

To the OP: my best reply was "I'm trying to" followed by audibly adding up my cards..12, 13, 14...

I was once sitting next to someone obviously trying to count. They were taking forever to raise / lower their bet, resizing after every push, and they were moving their lips. I suspect they were using HiLo, because at one point they pushed out about $100. I was betting half that, because although the count was good all the aces were gone. The pit came up and asked them "Wow, what's the count?" I thought they were talking to me, because they were behind me, so I showed my cards and said 20! The other guy got up and left.

" That's two decks and 104 cards. My guess is 60 cards dealt. I would need to take my shoes off and use my fingers and toes to keep a count of of all the cards. "

A little OT. BTW, I was in Reno a few weeks ago was getting ready to sit down at a table when some dimwitted ploppy said to me "If you sit down I will get up and leave because last time you through off the order of the cards!" Well, I wasn't in a really good mood, to put it mildly, and said to the guy as /i was walking away "Does Elvis talk to you???" The dealer was waving her hands as if to say 'don't do it" and she was laughing at the same time. Then I said to him "Do you get abducted by aliens???" The dealer was just laughing. Anyways, I left.

BTW, I'm actually an ok guy but I have been getting pissed at these damn ploppies!

I know. The problem is I don't want to get into it with someone at the table.

Actually the best response is a simple "yes" but say it in a provocative manner, as if you were raising an eyebrow, then smile and laugh as if the thought were preposterous

I'm not really into watching sports. I like to play them - especially when I was younger - more than watch them. I-dont-gedit-wha-duh-yuh-meen?
