    Costa Rica

I'm headed to Costa Rica in the next month or so.

Any recommendations? I understand that it is hard to find BJ, they instead offer some national variant? I hear that you can request blackjack be dealt on a case by case basis.

Any tips for the San Jose not related to blackjack are also appreciated.

Blackjack is not a government approved game, but some casinos will
smell your cash, as so to speak, and let you play some mediocre B.J.

I was there about 10 years ago. As I recall, there was a game similar to Sp21, but no BJ. They were 6D shoes cut in half. Needless to say, I didn't play.

The approved game is similar to Spanish21 but not as player-friendly.

    It is called "Rommy"

How about the country itself? Similar level of security to large US cities? Would $500 total on the table get people excited and make me a target?

Flash, when you say they will allow me to play BJ, if I can negotiate that they deal it to me, can I not negotiate player friendly rules also?

It is not a safe country. While the countryside is beautiful and there are some great ecotourism sights, San Jose is a dump. Every building, including small houses, has bars on the windows. There was a story in the news a few years ago about a tourist bus being held up at gunpoint.

You can ask for "American Style", but they will look at you cross-eyed and refuse.

They will agree to give you 6 decks, S17, DAS. Expect poor penetration.

Their daily gaming revenue is extremely small so they will get nervous

if you win more than a couple of hundred dollars.

    C. R. is perhaps the safest 3rd world country there is.

Other than car theft, the crime rate is very very low.

But ... $500 there is like $5,000+ here.

re: cost of living is roughly 1/5 of ours.

C.R. has NO military and police per capita

is the lowest ratio in the world.

Yes, San Jose is a dump, etc. BUT there is more to the country than San Jose.
