What does a back-off actually look like?

In my 4+ years of play i have not once witnessed or experienced a "back-off"
Do they strictly tell you that you cannot vary your bet anymore? Do they not allow you to play?

I have been told not to vary my bet, that I am only allowed to bet the table minimum, and been flat out told I cannot play table games and had my Identification demanded of me. The best one ever, the place that minimum bet me several times, one time the floor was just waiting for me to jump my bet, and when I did and lost the bet, he had the dealer back the play up, take the table minimum and had the dealer give me the rest of my bet back. I didn't know what to think, dude's giving me a loss rebate and telling the dealer I can only bet the minimum. I thanked him and quickly left.

Two suits come to the table and one taps you on the shoulder. "Would you step away from the table Mr. xxxxx." You get off your seat and they stand cold stone faced like Sargent Friday (Dragnet for you young guys) "You can no longer play blackjack at this casino. You can play any other games we have, but if you play blackjack here you will be barred from coming in here again. If you come in after that you will be tresspassing and may be arrested. Do you understand Mr, xxxxx?" Then they go laugh about it in the break room. Hopefully you have won enough at their casino so you can reflect on those wins while getting a drink and moving to the next stop.

This reminds me of my first backoff back in 19-- (sorry, my fingers slipped ) I was playing at a $2 table (you read that right) and it was right out of a mafia movie. I get the tap on the shoulder and turn around to find three guys standing behind me: one short boss dressed to the nines and two large goons behind and on either side of him. The line was, "Excuse me, sir. Would you step away from the table?" ... "We're going to have to ask that you not play blackjack here any longer, but you're welcome to play any of our other casino games." Honestly, the scene was so comically stereotypical that it was all I could do to keep from laughing in the guy's face!

As soon as I smiled and said, "Okay," the two goons disappeared and shorty accompanied me to the cage to cash out my massive winnings (I don't remember how much I had but it couldn't have been more than $100 or so.) I was back the following weekend without any further incident.

I still chuckle when I think of it. Boy, was I young...

If you're spreading 1-6 in a shoe game, I hope you're Wonging out. Otherwise. even with the best of rules and good penetration you're probably not playing with a SCORE much over 40, and much less if the rules and/or penetration aren't great.

Evidently you ignore where the guard's pointing to and go out however you want. NB: this may be an 86
