    Of Academic Interest ?

Me and two of our top posters here had an extended, extemporaneous, colloquium
re: the seemingly weird and unexpected things that occur in Blackjack and Span21
when the penetration is very deep ~ when < ½ deck is all that remains in a shoe.

I soon recalled where the immortal Peter Griffin, Ph.D.
published the following query (not verbatim)

    Blackjack. Heads-Up Play.

    You have 22 cards remaining.

TWELVE Faces and TWO each of:
    Aces, Sevens, Eights, and Nines.
and ONE each of a Deuce and a Trey.

A computer generates all possible hands and possible sequences.

What do you estimate is the advantage for optimal play ?

What would the Basic Strategist’s edge work out to being ?

Note: Soft 17 is not possible.

Note: absence of ranks 4, 5, and 6.

    Responses are encouraged, including

    guesswork and computer simulations.

The correct answers will boggle you (and fly in the face of what you know about BJ)

I will be on the road all week. I will wait awhile before posting the correct answers.

You have two eights left in your query and state 8's are totally depleted below. I assume 4's rather than 8's are supposed to be totally depleted. Assuming the fours are depleted and 2 8's remain 10% player edge or maybe a little more.

Shoot. I was thinking applying my count to get my EV. If I play better because I know the cards and use the actual deck composition for decisions the advantage is much higher.

"Me and two of our top posters. ..."

How is it remotely possible that you, who are so careful with language, could possibly write anything as horrific as the above???

Sloppy Syntax / grammatical errors are embarrassing.

    I was stooopidly "multi-tasking" ~ imagining that I

am not a codger, whose cerebral matter is slowly rotting.

    I know my pro-nouns and my con-nouns too. L.O.L.

Don - Serious question: Why is it "who are" and not "who is," since "you" refers to Flash and is singular?

And you think Don should leave THIS post alone, too? Not like you MasterFlash................

Do you say, "you are" or "you is"??!! "You" can be singular or plural, but is always takes the second person of the verb to be, which is "are" (I am, you are, he/she is, etc.).
The confusion is that you see "who" and you immediately (but, in this case, erroneously) think "who is." But, the antecedent of "who" is "you" and, therefore, the verb that follows "who" has to agree with the antecedent (i.e., "you are"). Clear?

This can cause some awkward-sounding constructions, and so we often avoid them. For example, we say, "I am your friend"; therefore, it is grammatically correct to say, "It is I who am your friend," but it sounds terribly stilted doesn't it?
