## Doubling Soft Hands

Are there indices or times when doubling soft hands according to BS against dealer 3-6 are not right play. I have not seen anything in what I have read or studied. In CV practice I have won only 28% of these hands and fewer at high counts. In actual play over last two months I am closer to 0% in higher counts. I get a ten to give me 13 to 18 and lose. Dealer not busting. Is this bad luck, my imagination or am I missing something?

Yes, there are a bunch of them, but the indices aren't that valuable.

a5 v. 3 is close
a7 v. 2 is very close
a8 v. 5,6 is very close
a9 v. 2-6 happens at high counts

I think you gain more from memorizing 8 v. 2-6 than these soft doubles. And A9 v. 2-6 is usually the same as your TT v. 2-6 index.

These are the indexes I use(High Low):

A,8 v 4,5,6 - Double @ 3,1,1(0 H17)

A,6 v 2 - 1

I use (Risk Averse Zen Count/Deck)
A2 vs 5 +1
A2 vs 4 +2
A3 vs 4 +4
A5 vs 3 +9
A6 vs 2 +2
A7 vs 2 +1
A8 vs 6 +1 (h17) +2 (s17)
A8 vs 5 +3
A8 vs 4 +5
A9 vs 5,6 +12 (special index but heat creating).

Otherwise it's basic strategy.

Thanks, just so I am clear. In your examples you are saying that on A3 vs 4 you won't double at +4 or higher.

Just to be clear, however, soft doubling indices aren't worth much. You're probably better off memorizing 8 v. 2-7, TT v. 2-7, 7 v. 2-6, etc. They just don't come up that often, and the ones below soft 17 aren't that sensitive to the count.

For several sessions I thought I would not double on soft hands at all but just hit away, just for the hell of it, but if I remember correctly about broke even on the play. I did this after a discussion on a forum a few years ago about the low EV of soft double, or something along that line.
