    Ante and House Edge

At my local "casino" the BJ is S17, 6 deck, Das, split up to 4, double any 2 but there's a .50 ante per hand! I was wondering if anyone could figure what that makes the house edge??? Any help/input welcomed.

Just do a little archive search and you will find quite a bit on this. Essentially you divide the ante over your bet, and add that percentage to the house edge. It's pretty eye opening. Here is a link that should help you start.

The House Edge does not change, but the correct answer cannot be found without your specifying what the bet is.

Without a so-called "ante" the House Edge is a reasonable 0.41%. With the 50¢ added ...

    1. If you are flat betting $5 then 50¢ is 10%. Adding that to your House Advantage ...= 10.41%
    2. If you are flat betting $50 then 50¢ is 1%. Adding that to your House Advantage ...= ..1.41%
    3. If you are flat betting $250 then 50¢ is 0.2%. Add that to your House Advantage. . == .0.61%

The game is unplayable, BUT locals, in most of these OK casinos, use a card and pay NO ANTE.

ZMF gave a good answer but I won't chime in as a procedural debate always ensues on exactly what amounts to use for the calculation. I see at as betting the bet plus the ante and being paid the bet minus the ante. Many see it another way. My way gets complicated when factoring in doubles, splits and BJ. ZMF answered the question well enough. The procedural issues change the HE very little but are of interest if you want to be exact.

Think of it as handing them around $50 an hour on top of the house edge against you. I hope you're not playing that with it in mind to turn a profit.

I had a look at the site for shits and giggles. It really is quite disgusting. KJ posts in the gambling forum. Appears to use the pseudonym of Dodo. Appropo?

so no real info as to why we are absent the presence of KJ? I have on first hand, from a reliable source as to why Grifter was banned, and based on that I am appalled. I do not know the circumstance of KJ and am still curious...only curious because quite of the input I saw was reliable. AGAIN, I have been away from the site for nearly 2 years. I am eager to find out what has transpired in our community since my absence. PM me if you wish. I'm glad to be back.

I've been here through it and I don't even quite remember how it ended. He may have left due to his own volition. If you feel like doing your own research there are plenty of long threads with enough drama to explain most of the story in any particular episode.

Think Norm eventually banned him. Surprised it took him so long. KJ didn't want to know when to quit - and of course, everyone participated in conspiracy theories.

Right. I personally couldn't keep track of which bans were temporary or not. Too bad he couldn't clean up his act for the site, he made some meaningful contributions.
