Rather than taking $300 to the casino, I would take that money and invest into blackjack software (CVBJ Verité for starters) and some books. You can buy the software from qfit.com, which I believe is linked to this site, and I would recommend starting with Wong's book, 'Professional Blackjack'. You can also check out his forum too (BJ21.com). Lots of great information there!

It sounds like you are very new to this endeavor and you probably have many misconceptions about blackjack and counting. Educating yourself with the right literature and software might clear some things up.
Ryemo is really doing You a huge favor, and I also agree with Him. Invest that money in some apps for Your phone and use it when You can. This is what I have done and still to this day during lunch break. No way do You want to hit the tables and be underfunded.

I would go against their general advice and go for the free stuff . Start with Norm's free book ,then buy a few good books . if you are still interested then join the site and read the other info. practice counting decks after reading the books and decide which count to use. Then you can think about buying cvbj and cvdata ,after all that you can start to bet in a casino when you have a proper plan and bank.

"I cannot recommend it, although, in truth, it is a reasonable place for an amateur to begin."

Norm's book is a great book, and does not take a backseat.

I'm sure you can find a lot of free information suitable for beginners, but you need to understand that investing in software and good books is not only +EV, but it's a MUST for any serious AP. You won't find any software like Norm's for free and I couldn't imagine any serious AP advancing their game without it.

Bottom line: Don't be stingy when it comes to investing in good information that will pay for itself and return dividends many times over. Check out the free stuff for now and see if AP blackjack is for you. If so, don't hesitate to make investments into your game. That's just my 2¢.
