    Advice

Hello to all. First post here. I am a noob and have just beat the 40 second speed range for the 1 deck counter drill. I am going to go to the casino tonight with $300. $15 minimum bet which I plan to stick with until count gets high, will change to $20 when it does. I've been to the casino 2 times this week. First time I went in with $60 and walked away with $300. Second time went in with $200 and walked away with a $85 profit. Both times just sticking to basic strategy...

    1. Any advice for little noob me with counting cards?

    2. Does it matter if I go in half way through a shoe or should I go in at the beginning?

    Thank you

It's time consuming to throw your money away with a zero bankroll. Lottery tickets would be much faster.

Is $15 the table minimum or your min bet? I'm assuming you're just doing this for practice or fun as you're only "spreading" to $20 and are only bringing $300. Expect lots of criticism here with this plan regardless.

And if the true count is what's most important, then shouldn't I just wait till a deck is left to jump in?

Long term, you will lose 47%, win 43%, tie 10%. You will win on bet spread, doubles and splits. Your bet spread won't win any money long term. Also, appears that you have an inadequate bankroll to survive the roller coaster.

I see nothing wrong with a low spread basic game, provided that you are prepared to lose the money - consider the excercise as school, and the lost money as a tuition expense. This assumes that you have access to funds and are willing to invest time and effort in learning your count system, along with the accompanying indexes.

Well, I was going by this. Nowhere is there a 51.5% odds explained.

This assumes a winning spread, and ability. I'm assuming someone told you that a counters edge of 1.5%. Flat betting, there is no edge. Playing perfect basic, depending on rules, you are probably -.5%..

Jabber and Freight were actually pretty tame with their comments. Must be the Christmas spirit.........LOL

In hopes that you are serious about this endeavor, your post really has a lot missing as to your interest, intent and desire to learn. How far you really want to go. You can use counting as a betting device. You can use counting also to vary your playing decisions.

As a junior member and newbie to this site, there is a WEALTH of information on the posts that you can glean answering your questions in great detail. You might even start by joining as a member so you can access the subscription sites and other materials. And this allows you to PM questions AND others to PM you. And if I recall it's only like $3 a month, which is 1/5 your minimum bet..........LOL

    NO !

Flat-Betting guarantees that you MUST lose in the long run,

and are VERY unlikely to win after one lengthy session.

I am very curious as to where you obtained this bizarre figure of 51.5%

    PLEASE reply.

    Unsolicited Advice:

Avoid casinos for a few months (at least)

Hang out here and try hard to learn a bit.

    kt333,

Rather than taking $300 to the casino, I would take that money and invest into blackjack software (CVBJ Verité for starters) and some books. You can buy the software from qfit.com, which I believe is linked to this site, and I would recommend starting with Wong's book, 'Professional Blackjack'. You can also check out his forum too (BJ21.com). Lots of great information there!

It sounds like you are very new to this endeavor and you probably have many misconceptions about blackjack and counting. Educating yourself with the right literature and software might clear some things up.
