When is the best time to use a matchplay coupon?

I often receive $25 matchplay coupons. I had been using them as part of my bet - say, when the count is positive and calls for 2 units ($50) I will play one green + the coupon.

If I get a blackjack and have the coupon out, I only get 3:2 on the chip, not the matchplay (which pays 1:1). So instead of winning $75 with a blackjack, I win $62.50.

Should I wait until I have a certain advantage to play the coupon as part of my spread, or should I play it ‘in addition’ to my spread? For example, the situation calls for my max bet of 8 units. Should I place $200 in green and add the matchplay in ‘addition to’, or should I place $175 and add the matchplay?

Also, is it best to do this at a slightly positive count as opposed to a very high count because of the 1:1 on blackjack payoff?

    I am mainly wondering about a DD game, spreading $25 - $200.

Thanks so much for any insight, I appreciate it.

It strikes me that at a high count is the best time to use it. On the issue of paying 1:1 for BJ that could happen but, you are still getting the extra 1:1 for nothing. If you had to DD with the coupon out isn't that an additional risk? OTOH, do you have to DD do you have to put out the additional bet or do you put out only the initial bet that the match play took care of?

I would still say at a TC~2. It depends on the initial HE. However, I would go to the 8 units and put the match play on to widen the spread.

    At any TC~2.

BTW I think that is a good spread to win that game. That is depending on the rules and HE.

But I defer to the more knowledgable members on the board.

Blackjack is pretty much the worst game for use of MatchPlays.

What do you do if you have $25+MP and are dealt 2,2v6? 6,6v2? 11vT? A8v6? 8,8vT? 9v7? Remember you have offensive splits and defensive splits. And a MP coupon isn't worth the $25 cash, so strategy changes from BS.

Maybe you can take that coupon to baccarat or roulette... Bet $25 on banker and the coupon on player. Do the same thing with red/black on roulette; you'll have a little more than a 94% chance of turning that coupon into cash that way.

I have a store that has offered me $700 in free play and cash rebates (all redeemable within 3/4 days of each other), but my name has been tarnished with that chain (not at that particular store). So my plan was to play anonymously with no card, and come back later with a different look and different shift to cash all my coupons. Because if I try to play the coupons, I'll need to give up a player's card, which could trigger a BO or countermeasures.

Use it at 3 card poker. You can expect 70% return. Most places won't let you play the coupon on the ante, but you can play it on the play. Put $25 chips on the ante, then play any hand dealt to you. If your hand is K97+, complete the play bet with real chips. If you have K96 or worse, complete the play bet with your free play.

    You bet 2 X $25 because you (might) have a 0.5% advantage.

By betting the coupon you will gain less than 0.5% of $25.

(due to even money on BJ)

That is the remarkable sum of (less than) 12.5 cents.

You should not use them at blackjack,

but if you must, bet it on the first hand.

If you play it as a part of your bet you only gain money if you lose the bet. In that case you only lose half your bet but if you get a BJ it costs half the coupon dollar amount. If you bet in addition to your bet you would make anyway you win the coupon if you win but are in the same place you would be otherwise if you lose. A third option is to shave half the coupon value from your bet and bet the coupon instead. That way you win half the coupon value either way the decision is decided and a BJ is paid 1/4 the dollar amount of the coupon above what you would have made anyway. So any way the hand plays out you win half the coupon dollar amount except for a BJ were you get 1/4 of the dollar amount. Of course how you handle doubles and splits will have its effect as well.

If you want to play the coupon on blackjack, wait till you have a double or split opportunity with a $25 bet or higher. You know you have no opportunity for a 3:2 payout in those situations anyway, so reserve the coupon for that situation if your plan is to use it via blackjack.

Around here the coupon is good for the original bet only even if the original bet also is chips and a coupon.

Do you have a source that shows the math for this? Or any article or posting that describes why this is the strategy? If accurate, this would likely be the best place to play Direct Bet coupons.

    Thanks in advance. :-)

Yes, but only if the casino let you bet on other games that you have more chances of winning on like Bankers bet in Baccarat.

Some match plays will say :

    Rules Concerning Match Play Coupons

Match Play is valid on Blackjack, Mini-Baccarat (player bet), EZ Baccarat (player bet), Roulette (red, 1-18, or even money bet only), Pai Gow, Pai Gow Poker, EZ Pai Gow Poker, Craps (pass wager), Asia Poker. The coupon portion of the wager will pay even money. The 'matched' chip portion of all bets is paid in accordance with the published rules of the game.

See in this case Blackjack might be the best game to use the Match Plays.

Ok, didn't realize that. In that case, I would try to cash it out with the methods I described so I could play the money the way I want.
