    Crazy guy I kind of met AC

    So a little while ago, me and a partner were playing AC. I won't go into detail as exactly what casino it was but here goes:

    I'm playing and all of the sudden I hear someone breathing down my neck. I was spotting for a teammate so I had 15x2 . I stood up & signaled my partner in and the guy that was breathing down my neck than sat down at the $10 table and bought in for $3000, all big bills. So I'm like, hmm, did he run down this shoe with me or what the hell is going on, so again, I signal for my partner to start making his way over. As I stood up and the dealer is counting out his money he (the guy) says "where you going". I replied, "I'm out of here, I lost $40 and I'm calling it quits for the day" he says "sit back down, the count is good". I said "huh" he again told me to "sit back down." At that point the dealers eye brows raised up and she is looking at me, look at him. I'm thinking wtf, is this a set-up..? My partner arrives with chips, and he sits down on the opposite side of the table. At this point my partner is there, my job is done, I'm leaving - so the guy says "I worked for the state of NJ Gaming commission and I recently retired, sit down I'll show you how to count the cards". I said really, he said yea, and sure as hell showed me an ID that said NJ gaming commission. He then went on to tell me that he is retired from the commission and now he makes a living "counting the cards" - As my parter was playing he said the guy was counting out loud, going from like +3, to +16, back to +10 all in one hand. My only thought is that this guy was totally nuts, however he showed me his photo ID (not a badge like most states) and it 100% said NJ gaming commission. My partner said the guy ended up making a fortune, my question is this:

    Was he an AP or a casino creep?
    Has anyone ever ran into him?
    Why would he act this way playing higher limit BJ, even if his game were strictly wong in?

    I've never seen counter catchers, or casino employees actually game while on the clock, although I have been stocked by 2 of the most known on my first trip out there.

    It was all weird to me and I decided to share this story because an old thread that just resurfaced & it has the guys first name, and the state of NJ in the handle.. Does anyone know the guy I am speaking of? It was a while ago, so if you think I am outing you please have Norm delete this thread.

    He must have made some people like of fear him while on the commission. Nowadays gaming enforcement has taken over and they are a division of the police.

    The gaming commission backed me up every time I had a need to call them. I always tried to work things out with the casino first going right up the chain of command so if I got to gaming the casino really had the 6 figure fines coming. I think an incident at a casino that went under cost them enough to help cause them to go under. They called in a huge black dude to intimidate me but I can take care of myself and all it did was piss me off enough to give me resolve to follow through with a complaint. That move really pissed of the investigator. The fine was per incident and they had been breaking the rule for months. They were ordered to put signs on the table informing people of the actual rules but I never saw them after that. I informed gaming each time and I think further fines were issued. They should have settled things between us rather than act like thugs. I tried my best to do that but they wanted no part of that and just treated me like I was powerless.

    If you would have asked him where he obtained all his counting skills, there is a strong possibility you would have herd the following response. The story goes way back but I can still recall a very kind young gentleman I met when I first started my job offered to show me the way. In spite of being skeptic my natural curiosity piqued my interest, so I let him demonstrate his skill. I was amazed at what I witnessed, and all I can vaguely remember about the man was he went by the name of master zen or something. I thanked him, but told him I could not look the other way if his name surfaced in my job, as it could get me fired. He was somewhat disappointed but understood.

    Sounds like a hobbyist counter who was being social. When I first learned I would get drunk and do stuff like that. He retired recently and was enjoying his new lifestyle.

    Thanks for the heads up on this ex-gaming agent. I'll look and befriend with him. Then I'll ask him how to handle the shiftmanagers' harassments, i.e., the $200 flat-bet-restriction, verbal abuse and threats at casinos, etc...

    This story of yours sounds like a great example for taking heat in the casino. Especially since you were signaling in a partner as you say. It must have been excruciating for your partner to play through such an embarrassment while at the table with the guy counting aloud. I cannot believe your partner actually sat through such a fiasco and played that session. Your story has me wondering if your cover was blown by being obvious somehow in your teams approach. Gaming employees retired or not are on one side, and players are on the other.

    In New Jersey the Gaming Commission always took my defense when the casinos would not correct their improprieties. Now it is Gaming Enforcement, a branch of the police, and they are more like you describe. When it was Gaming Commission I had agents on speed dial. They took the integrity of AC gaming seriously. That seems to be a thing of the past now that the police are running the show. Why is that not surprising?

    Is the 200 flat bet restriction legal for them to apply in AC?

    They do as they wish in A.C.

    It used to be that they would give you $5 to $50 limits or half-shoe you.

    Since the casinos learned that the State Police want nothing to do with the casinos;

    and the Casino Control Commission was made defunct, they have become VERY bad;

    intimidating in some stores (e.g. Taj Mahal); using $200 limits and flat-betting elsewhere,

    e.g. Borgata, which now also bars any player with cumulative wins of an unknown amount.
