Question Guidance on setting CoB Playing and Betting Strategy in CVBJ

After some advice from another board user on picking up and reading Daniel Dravot's The Color of Blackjack I've started playing with it in CVBJ.

Though KO and it's CoB variation are pretty simple, I really want to setup CVBJ so I can run myself a through a few thousand hands to see how it compares to the other counting strategies I've been playing with. There are some included playing and betting strategies but I'm having a hard time setting them up.

For example, I'm expecting that if the RC gets to 9-11 within the first deck, the proper action would be to jump my bet up to the next ramp. Now if the RC remains at 9 until the first card of the second deck appears, I'm supposed to drop my bet back down to the min unless the RC goes to 12, at which point I can jump my bet up again.

What I was hoping for was some of the same error feedback from CVBJ. If I bet 1 unit instead of 2 at RC 9 in the first deck, the application should yell at me and indicate an error. As well, I was expecting that that application would complain if I was still betting 2 units at the beginning of the second deck with an RC of 9.

Is this possible within CVBJ or am i SoL?

    Thanks, all.

You can set up a multi-betting strategy to vary the bets by section of the shoe and a multi-playing strategy for changing playing decisions by sections of the deck. You can see a sample multi-playing strategy by clicking on Attach a Strategy, opening the Daniel Dravot folder, and attaching the Color of Blackjack Multi strategy.

But, if it is your aim to "to setup CVBJ so I can run myself a through a few thousand hands to see how it compares to the other counting strategies I've been playing with", then this is not what CVBJ is for. Results of a few thousand hands are completely meaningless.

    Hi Norm!

I was playing with that last night after I posted but the behavior I was seeing in CVBJ doesn't reflect what I was expecting. Specifically I'm not seeing the change in bet requirements based on the RC. I think it might be easier if I edited together a bit of video to illustrate the behaviors that I'm seeing. I'll throw something together tonight.

As for my testing: I’m not testing the strategy; I’m testing myself using the simulator. If I can’t keep the betting ramps and playing strategy straight using the CoB strategy in the simulator, how the heck would I be able to do it in a Casino? ;-) I just want to be sure that I can keep my errors down and my (virtual) BR moving in and out based on the standard deviations expected with some semblance of confidence.

Go to File-Backup, create a backup file, and e-mail it to [email protected].

    Backup File Sent

Sent a bit of diagnostic information as well as the backup.zip file. While I was gathering that, I encountered this interesting error:
    CVBJ Error.JPG

Which due to some previous experience, makes me think I've given something a bad name or a bad reference. Let me know if this is related to my current problem.

    Thanks.

I also use the CoB along with my K-O and it is effective, I have monitored it while setting my simulator on Hi-lo count at they give signals almost at the same time. and I don't find deck estimation any problem, maybe you need to play more in casino so you can get over your stress first and then it becomes easier
