What if you get caught hole carding?

I know it's not illegal, but I imagine that casinos will be a lot more pissed off if they catch you hole carding as opposed to card counting. What are the repercussions here? What if you get caught in a normal American casino, an Indian casino on soveirgn land, or an international casino? And how likely is it that I will be caught?

Usually they just correct the dealer. In my experience 80% of the time that is what happens. There is a great range of possible outcomes if they do confront you. The nicest one I have had was "you can't play here anymore, I am sorry you are too good." Slightly less nice was a staff member mockingly calling me a "peeker." "Hey peeker! How is the view? Seeing anything interesting? Get out of here." My worst one was an attempted backrooming and refusal to cash my chips. Since I was knowledgeable about my rights (thanks to the forums) I told them "no thank you, I'll be leaving now." As I walked out 4 guys averaging about 6' 300# escorted me attempting to intimidate me. As I left they showed me photos of me and repeatedly used my name talking trash. They all piled into the elevator with me, which was the scariest moment. Others have had far worse experiences, including jail. I don't know if I would agree that they are " a lot more pissed off if they catch you hole carding as opposed to card counting." Id say the "pissed off" amount is comparable and relates mostly to how much money you win.

How likely you are to be caught depends on a lot of things. Id say you are less likely to be caught HCing than card counting if you are doing both of them "right." If you sit in a normalish position, don't make it obvious, and don't make too much money you are unlikely to get caught except by very sharp places that have been hit recently.

They'll correct the dealer while you're playing or they'll 86 you and then correct the dealer. Or they'll just 86 you for "playing with an advantage" and really have no idea what you're doing (this is especially true if you're data based).

Some places will try to intimidate you into giving up your information. The worst that's happened to me is empty threats, trespass readings, and being chased off the property.

A friend of mine told me about how his wife walked in on him and another woman in bed going at it. He couldn't think of anything else to say so he said, "You're not really seeing what you think you're seeing!" as if to imply she was hallucinating? I know this is likely no help at all but it was a funny story.

Usually they will correct the dealer. You could get backed off. Depends on the casino, their experience with hole carding, how long the jurisdiction has had gambling.

In Vegas, it's usually not going to be a big deal. An Indian casino, or a middle-of-nowhere casino that's only been open a year, things could get interesting.

If they suspect cheating, you can be detained for several hours in some jurisdictions.
