    Reading Books

If I go on a coffee break or to lunch by myself, I always have an AP book with me and read. Very often people will sit down beside me and look to see what I am reading. I have noticed that no one ever asks what THEY should do, they always go off on a tangent about how I should play to win and what machines to play etc. They go on for 20 or 30 minutes explaining how to play to me so I just sit back and nod and listen to what they have to say and offer no suggestions, knowing all the time they don't have a clue.

I just got back from such a session with a guy who rambled for 30 minutes and said he was a numbers guy and if he read one of the books he'd catch on real quick. If I didn't know I'd never get my book back, I'd loan him a beginner book "Theory of Blackjack" and tell him after he memorized and understood everything in there, he'd be ready to play for small stakes.

With most people it does no good. Maybe, just maybe with him it might be ok. But if you don't think you're going to get book back then don't. Just refer him to BTD or Pro BJ.

Knowing the area that you reside in I could understand that Bodarc. I never read gambling books in public places but I do play card games with people in public places outside of casinos such as poker, blackjack, and spades. When it comes to blackjack I deal some of them and observe the decisions they make. These people that I deal in public places don't take a serious approach to blackjack from what I can tell, it seems like more of a recreational game to many.

Bodarc, you already know I'm like you in that respect. What I want to add that is really funny is that most people when they see some of the AP books, they look at the book. Then they look at me. Then look back at the book. Then look back at me. Some you can see want to AVOID any question and lower their head when I see them. Others will ask "can you really WIN at that game?" Don't know if they expect a true answer but I usually ask them if they know basic strategy or some question along those lines..........even started asking Munchkin's question.......'Do you know what to do with A7?'........It's quite humorous what the replies can be. But I do have one opposite observation. It confirms what you have seen but they don't express it. No one tries to tell me what they know when they see the books. I think they don't want to reflect ignorance. I have come to believe it's because MOST have never read one..............Blackjack book, I mean. LOL

Have you ever heard: "oh blackjack! a buddy of mine actually thought of a pretty good system. What you do is you just double up your last bet after you lose a hand. That way you're always up a unit when you finally win". I'd think that perhaps some of them might think your book is the type that tells you about the Fletcher Formula or something of the sort.

Most people will see you as a gambler and keep a distance from you. Avoid you like a plague!

I have heard it more than you can imagine.......LOL From my ex-wife's view that she had the secret to craps by Martingaleing on the "don't" line..........let me tell you she made some people very mad, calling for a seven at inauspicious times. To friends who say they have a relative that has the "secret" to blackjack. It's usually martingale or some progression system. Not one has ever expressed that they followed any basic strategy that we know.
