Dealer Errors - Players Rights ?

Was at a table playing and the dealer forgets to check their hole card. They deal one card before realizing it and check. They have Blackjack.

So I figure it probably different based on jurisdiction but what should one expect when the pit comes over to make a ruling. Should the hand be canceled? While it is too late now I just have always been unclear on what to really expect on dealer errors. Mainly the card dealing type of errors.

The up card was a 10 so insurance was not a factor in my example.

If the dealer had an Ace in the hole for a Blackjack and caught his mistake to late by dealing you a card I would have to figure that the pit boss is not going to rule in your favor. Now if the card the dealer was not supposed to deal was a ten or an Ace I would be upset. The dealer should get scolded for breaking protocol. The player should scold the dealer. Tell the dealer to, "Get your head out of your ass and in the game."

The player should never scold the dealer. Everyone makes mistakes.

Boss would likely just have everyone's hand be a push....and shuffle. If there were big bets out, probably lose the bets, and shuffle.

Oh if there were big bets on the table and with the dealer messing up even though they had a Blackjack I imagine that no one is going to get a free pass. I can see your reasoning for not scolding the dealer because I know I make a lot of mistakes. I don't think it would be too out-of-line to crack some jokes on the dealer about sending them back to dealer school. If that would have happened to me the pit boss would more than likely side in the houses favor. Just a hunch anyways.

Take a shot at calling it a cancel. But, the dealer's got a blackjack. Hard to make a case. The card should be discarded. But, if it's good and you're at FB, take a shot at that too.

I had a similar situation the other night. Dealer doesn't check for ace in the hole and I have a double down situation (I don't remember what I had but it must have been 11 since dealer had face showing). I double down and dealer deals to everybody else before turning over his blackjack. He calls floor over and I am hoping that I won't lose my double down because I obviously would not have doubled down had the dealer checked for blackjack first. This was definitely dealer's fault. The pit boss says "he'll be nice and just call it a push for everyone." Dealer seemed to think that we were lucky in this case since after all he could have said that we all lost because dealer had blackjack.
I'm grateful that he called it a push, but if he had gone the other way I would have been PO'd. I don't deserve to lose a double down that I would not have made anyways had the dealer checked his hole card like he should have.

No way they could have ruled a loss on the DD bet. But, it is why you ask for a push. Not every PB is an idiot. Many know that giving the average player a pass, even when it may not make sense, doesn't matter because the average player will lose all of his/her budget anyhow. Casinos need to learn this. I think I need to create a new set of sims based on time a non-AP plays and stupid decisions. Too damn busy now. Mayhaps I can talk the ZMan into a joint look at this.

Why even waste the time performing such a task? If your going to create a new set of sims a little thought and effort go a long ways in which players could measure their skills and abilities in different areas. Of the few BJ sims that I've played, none of them have been perfect. They can all be improved upon to make a more enjoyable experience for a player although I've never played your sims. If you do get around to it let me play it and I will give you a brutally honest assessment of what I think about your newly created sim and if any improvements can be made to it.

If it's the ZMan I think your referring to, go right ahead.

The ZMan seems to be an agent for the casinos. I don't like the guy.

In a similar dealer error, where a dealer dealt herself a 4, hole card was a 10, then a 2, an Ace and yet another Ace. The PB ruled that the extra Ace cannot be used in settling bets AND then said that I at first base would be receiving the extra Ace as my first card. I was playing $25 and the other player, the dealer and the PB allowed me to up my bet. I did the polite thing and added $50 (total bet $75). Unfortunately, I got a 3 and an 8 and then busted with a 10. I "lucked out", been crucified on another forum for not playing the table max.

on another note, assume you receive a 2 card 17, the dealer has an 8 showing, she fumbles her HC and you at 3rd base get a quick glimpse of the 10 under. Dealer has 18 and you know it. Do you hit? If you hit and get a 2-3, win the hand, will the casino pay? Are you now done with that casino, they have identified you as a CC or Hole carder?
