    Table Superstition

I am of the opinion that however someone at the table chooses to play their hand has no effect on my wins and losses in the long run.

But with this opinion, I am in a tiny minority it would seem.

I constantly hear things like "I was playing at this one table and this guy was splitting tens so I just got up and left." or "Never hit a such-and-such hand, you'll just wind up taking the dealer's bust card."

In my mind, if a guy wants to DD on a 7 or hit a 16 v 6, then in the long run it doesn't have any effect on what the next card is going to be.

Is there any credence to this popular conception that a bad player can cause the table to lose in the long run?

Either way. 2 players or 6 players. In my thinking, what the other guy does has no effect on my success in the long run.

If they hit more often on high counts and stand more often on low counts they are eating your good cards. If they hit more often on bad counts than in good counts they are eating your bad cards for you. That is the only affect their play has on you. Since almost everyone will hit at random compared to the count they generally have no affect.

You really have to worry about the ones that smell good. That is what would distract me.

Makes no difference how they play their cards but in my head I'm always rooting for the other players (and dealer) to get small cards and draw small cards... just doesn't always work out that way.

This should be recognized as the official blackjack AP motto.

If the ploppies would think about it for a second, they would realize casinos wouldn't be allowed to put people together on games of chance if the play of others affected their results. But plops live in the short term world and don't think like that. I'll gladly take the blame for their losing.

Short term, yes it hurts you. Long term, no. it's irrelevant how they play their hands.

Think about it like this and what ploppies fail to understand. The guy playing like an idiot can easily have helped you by taking a card making the dealer bust and/or prevent the dealer from making a pat hand. Ploppies only remember the negative and can't put it through their small peanut sized brains that the bad player could have easily helped them as well. The plops live in the short term and have no long term strategy so of course it will haunt them and continue to flood their selective memory.
