    CVData surrender index gen

Should I get different index numbers for a sim if I do the exact same sim in CVData for index generation, except in one sim I don't specify any surrender indexes to be generated, and in another sim I do specify all surrender indexes? This is with selecting late surrender in both cases. And by different index numbers, I mean different non surrender indexes, like doubling 10 vs 9 for example.

Two situations: surrender and non-surrender indices are generated in the same run or different runs.

    Same run:
The generation of surrender indices can be affected by other indices generated in that run. But, Surrender indices generated in that run will not affect other indices.

    Different runs:
Indices can affect each other. But, any affect on surrender indices by other indices generated in a previous run would be very minor, if at all, assuming that the first run had at least basic strategy surrender in the strategy on which the generation is based.

In any case, doubling indices would not be affected by surrender indices except when the highly unusual surrender after double rule is in effect.

Sounds complicated. But, the general answer is no. Although, you do have to run both generations using the same base strategy.

So would I want to do two different runs with and without surrender? Lets say my main game is DD S17 DAS RSA no surrender. Would I want to do two different runs to generate index numbers, once for that game without surrender, then again with surrender if I want the surrender indexes, in case I run into that same rule set but with surrender allowed?

Re-reading your post it sounds like it would be fine to run the sim one time with surrender, and that would generate good non surrender indexes, as well as generating the correct surrender indexes when that rule is available. This should work because the surrender indexes generated would not affect the other indexes.

edit: when I got the different double 10 vs 9 index number, I was actually comparing a DD sim vs a 6D sim. My fault for running too many sims back to back.

If they are not RA indices, running one generation with surrender will be fine for both surrender and non-surrender games. If you are generating RA indices, they will be a bit better if you run them separately. But, probably not a great deal of difference.

They are RA indices and I did see some slight differences between two sims with just adding surrender indices. So I will run them separately, since I generally don't get to play any games with surrender. Thanks Norm!
