    House Edge for these rules

I recently found a great game. Its S17, DAS, LS, RSA about 80% pen avg 8 decks. What would be the house edge?

For these rules it's 0.37% but that's just a number off a chart. Penetration is the key, as in most cases, and I would like to see more than 80% before I get too exited over this one.

House edge is 0.29%. With a 1.6 deck cut (80%) this is a still a very playable game because of the great rules.

The good six deck games with re split aces has a house edge of 0.28%. How did you get 0.29 for this eight deck game?

Sorry bigplayer you're right. I misused the Wizard's calculator. It is indeed a good game.

I would say a good game, except I dislike 8 decks, but very good rules. If it were 6 decks one could get very excited.

    Great point, Ouchez.

As I am sure many of our members are aware, I 'grew up' on 8 deck games at the beginning part of my career, playing Atlantic City. At the time, I just didn't fully grasp how vastly different (worse) 8 deck games are from similar 6 deck games. If you compare the initial house advantage, the 8 deck is what .03 higher? Seems like no big deal. It isn't until you really compare the true count frequencies that you see what a huge difference it really is. And of course those true count frequencies translate directly to win rate.

So for newer players or players a little slow on the up take (as I am), I just wanted to take this opportunity to emphasize Ouchez's point.

It takes a lot of time to get to favorable opportunities. Personally, I don't have enough patients to play through or back count even "good" 6D games. Maybe once or twice a month. For me, even SD's can sometimes take quite a bit of time to get to favorable opportunities. I remember very clearly a few weeks ago one particular session took 6 shuffles on a SD game to get to +2 true HU with about a 70% pen. LOL... Time is money.

With the same number of cards cutoff an eight deck game is almost exactly the same as a six deck game. I prefer an 8 deck game. It takes a little longer to get a good count but when you get one it lasts a very long time and you get a ton of EV in one shot. An 8 deck game with same rules as a 6 deck game and 1.5 decks cutoff will have almost (not quite but almost) the exact same win rate. That is why CBJN reports the number of decks cutoff and not percentages or decks dealt out.

MORAL: Do not fear 8 deck games. They can be very good games.

I have a feeling that no matter what the game, those who love to play, love to gamble, love the casino life, will find some off the wall reason to play it. I think there is something very sad about that.

    Midwest,

I think we know of a 6D that is even better than that, I think I came up with .22, but that was a long time ago when I did the math on it, but still available to play today, what a rush!
