Question Hello Folks! New here and im looking for some advice.

Hey i'm a little new to blackjack, I have played with friends before but i recently picked up a book "The Big Book Of Black Jack" By: Arnold Snyder and i'm extremely interested, I've always been good with mental math and that's what blackjack is when you look at it . Basic strategy, is just looking at what you have and the up card and figuring out if the dealer has a higher chance of beating your card or if you have a higher chance of busting off of a potential card. And the book explains loads about the strategy. now i'm 18 and i live in Canada but i turn 19 in a few months so before i go to a casino i wanted to really work this out and understand it.

Question 1. Anyone know of any other good reading material on black jack?

Question 2. Any recommendations on what i should work on next?

Questions 3. Is playing online, (not for cash) good practice for casino's?

Thanks for reading! Let me know if i posted this somewhere i shouldnt.

Also, regarding Basic Strategy, If you were to practice one of the two splitting methods which is one more likely to run into in a casino, "No doubling after split or doubles after splitting"?

    DAS is more common.

    1. Haven't read it yet (only skimmed through) but I've heard nothing but great things about Norm's material. It's also free. You can't beat that. I personally like blackbelt in blackjack, play blackjack like the pros, and burning the tables in Las Vegas.

    2. You need to understand that the math should be the last thing on your mind while playing. So when you say that, "BJ is mental math", it is but there are far greater things that you need to build into your game. I would recommend not playing until the math is second nature. Practice, practice, practice... And then practice some more. In the mean time, work on building a sufficient bankroll. As this is the most important step.

    3. No. Norm's Casino Verite program is definitely worthy practice. Along with simple practice with a deck of cards and flash cards.

Hello Folks! New here and im looking for some advice.

I forgot to mention something else for number 2...

Buy Norm's CVCX program, well worth the money (Less then $100 if I remember right). This program gave me the numbers plain and simple. Yeah you may be very good at math (I sadly am not that great) but BJ is a constantly changing game. Rules are varied from casino to casino. Nearly every dealer has different shuffle points. So math in your head or on paper will not be that accurate and sufficient. This software is accurate and very fast as well.

You are 19. More so than BJ, you will learn about yourself and how you react. If you have success often, you will begin to think that BJ has career possibilities. If you lose all your money, you will hate yourself. It will be a lot of fun if you are having positive experiences but be introspective, ask yourself if you are getting addicted, if you are lying to your close ones to get to the casinos and where that can lead.

Most importantly, do not get tempted out of pursuing other careers, going to college and more. Best way to check is to set a number of hours you will play each week and see if you can stick to it. If you are exceeding it, you might think it is because you are winning when you are really getting addicted.

Just like with alcoholics and druggies, you think you have it under control and denial is rampant. Be careful!!

I would also recommend Million Dollar Blackjack by Ken Uston, aswell as teaching in depth several different count systems and other AP blackjack techniques, there are also several chapters of tales and stories from 'the road' which make for entertaining reading.
