Question Double or triple bet on first hand after shuffle??

    Hi online friends,

[a little background: beginning card counter, no shuffle tracking skills or ace location. I am at the stage where I go to casinos simply to learn and improve my play in accordance to Basic Strategy, proper bet spread, indices, insurance, camo, etc. Game is single deck with decent rules.]

On Casino trip #2, a person to the right of me noticed that I was a beginner because of the lack of knowledge on game customs (scratch to hit, do not hold cards with both hands, etc.).

He advised me to increase my bet at the beginning of a shuffle because it is mathematically in your favor to win on the first hand of a shuffle. I don't think he was employing any tracking or ace locating techniques.

Can anyone give light on this "advice" ? Of course as a beginner with an open mind, I am willing to follow through on unorthodox plays if they work. I've ran naked in my hotel room and did two high jumps in accordance to some advice, guaranteeing it would work!! Just kidding, I didn't do that. Well maybe.. Anyways what I am trying to say is that I am always willing to learn.

    Thanks for the help!

Nonsense. The house has the edge, bet small.

This. Pretend that you're the only person there, but remember to act like a ploppy to pull off your play. Some index plays may draw people to the conclusion that you are a ploppy like splitting 10s and doubling 8's vs 6's.

This should be on the TOP of the list.
Corollary to the above - never take advice from a dealer either. They learn from ignorant players.

When the guy said it is mathematically in your favor to win the first hand of the shuffle, did you ask him, "So why aren't you betting table max?"

It's odd that he'd say that, actually, since many believe "the dealer always wins the first hand of the shoe....everytime he pulls a 20 or 21 on the first hand!" Maybe the guy didn't like you and wanted to you to lose, so he said to bet big off the top because he *thinks you are more likely to lose the first hand. ??

And no, it is not in your favor to bet high on the first hand of the shoe.

Hey BigPlayer, ZenKinG, RollingStoned, Code Red, Tthree, Skull21, and 21forme, thanks for the tips and answering my question. I'll continue to bet small on the first hands and act accordingly to the account with proficient camo - as well as pretend that there is no one else at the table (that is unless y'all are playing with me =D ). Once again, thank you all for advice and tips - I definitely took note!

Thanks for the welcome Code Red, it was Wendover, NV. To my memory, it was Single Deck, no surrender, Hit Soft 17, Split any pair, one card draw after split, Blackjack pays 3 to 2, one card draw on any double downs, my table was a $5 minimum, and there was a royal match bet (get any cards of the same suit and it pays you with some ratio (I didn't play it as other forums said it was a suckers bet unless using a match bet system).

hey KoolAid, yeah, listen to bigplayer, (and Tthree) he/bigplayer was one of the first to give me some great pointers right away when I started getting more serious into blackjack... most of the guys that have "senior member" under their name(accept me maybe) are fantastic-knowledgeable players/pros and semi-pros with real mathematics to back up their statements...not your "Average joes" that just plop down by any means.
By the way, many of the good beginner blackjack books would be a great read; have you read any?

Sounds like a fair game. I can't find a game like that for hundreds of miles. Good luck. I believe there are a few individuals on here from Wendover who might collaborate with you.

First. Be a bit more discrete with games and location ( dont worry ive been there). You cud potentially have yur game raped or even out yourself.
    You've been warned.

Second. You should not learn how to properly size bets, utilize basic strategy, or recall indices and insurance in the casino... Thats just foolish. Master your game on the kitchen table first. Don't worry about an "act" until your dropping pumpkin chips like its halloween. The greatest act is exactly as you are and should remain (to the eye) a ploppy. The best spend there time appearing to know nothing and losing.... until the wins start to pile up
