Why does casino assign high limits to blackjack games with lower house edge?

When doing game scouting I notice a path. There is a conversation around the casino that said games with lower house edge is over. I don't think that this statement is actually true because games with lower house edge has been assigned high limits ($100 and $200). Is the casino doing this to protect their blackjack games? or it is because by assigning higher limits to games with lower house edge will make the net lost equivalent to games with higher house edge?

Because people with that kind of money to put at risk aren't stupid enough to bet it on just any game, they will shop for the best game with the best incentives to play. If the casinos want this high rolling action they will compete for it.

The plops will play any garbage put in front of them at least for a time. If you are willing to eat sh*t you will be served sh*t.

Not everyone who play at a low limit are ploppies. They could be card counter that is just starting off. Who will recommend a beginner card counter play at a level $100 to $200? Beside it is hard to pull off advance techniques in these higher limit pits.

    1. They don't have enough tables for team play.
    2. The don't have enough tables to do table hopping.
    3. The pit bosses watch these games closely.

Depends on the jurisdiction. In LV, real-estate taken by the table and the maintenance (personal, et.al.) is very expensive. Fixed costs are not as high at a cheap table as a high-limit table. But, they are a higher percentage of the action.

Thank you, Tthree! I am constantly amazed by the knowledge and experience, but more, the insight, that is contained in your answers.

As always, good luck and good cards!

Really simple, 0.6% on a $10 bet is not as much profit as 0.26% of a $100 bet. And they can claim to that bigger player that they are getting more value for their money than at x casino, and the rules are an objective measurement for that.

    ^ I don't think that really applies. By the same logic... 0.26% on a $10 is less than 0.26% on a $100....and 0.6% on $10 is less than 0.6% on $100.

It's harder to protect 20 good floor games and 5 good HL games than it is to protect 20 poor floor games and 5 good HL games. Majority of the players who are turned off by poor rules are either APs or high rollers.

Part of my point was that the higher stakes player has more options and can essentially demand that. It was also stating in other terms what norm said. 0.26 doesn't justify the floor space and paying idle dealers at times versus other options they could have on the floor in higher revenue joints, from their perspective. They don't feel they need to offer that to get low stakes players, and are probably right on that one. Theyd make more money if they all had surrender on their shoe games though the way you see poor players who use surrender surrendering 12 vs. 8 and such though.

Higher limits, more money in play, casino offers better rules. Remember casinos make most of their money off of a very small percentage of their customer base. These are people who can demand (AND GET) better rules or they can take their business elsewhere. Casinos don't make much money on $5 and $10 players and thus have higher house advantages on those games.

Slots are the same way, Penny Slots on the LV Strip return 87%, $100 slots return 95% to 97%. You find mostly 8/5 Jacks (or worse) on 25c VP games, you get 9/6 Jacks on $5 VP games. Casinos want to make a minimum hourly rate and if you're willing to bet more you get better rules.

You guys are lucky, about 30% of the games I play are worst then the main pit a few metres away. The change is 5 and 10$ tables are ES 10, the $25 tables ( in my locale this is HL) it's NS, worse pen. Yiu guys have it good in the south (LV), stop complaining. Also the high rollers here are mostly just as stupid as the low limit degenerates and ploppies alike.

I always thought it was because of the martingale betting system. I high end limit keeps someone from coming in with an unlimited bankroll and winning every time. Martingale will always win eventually but who has that kind of bankroll to roll with that to the end. For the guy that does he is capped with the high limit and the casino will always win.

What's an unlimited bankroll and where can I get one?

Seriously, Martingale will NOT always win eventually. For that matter, it is impossible to win if you have an unlimited bankroll since an unlimited bankroll can't be increased.

What does a martingale have to do with the relation of house edge to table limits?
