    bfbagain: BJ Ace prediction

Apparently, or so I've been told and then maybe not ..... the change in shuffle procedures has already begun.

One specific casino appears, or so my eyes told me, to take David's countermeasure as published in paragraph 3 of page 21 and implemented it a couple of weeks ago.

It seemed (I didn't time it) like it added an additional 5 full minutes (maybe only 3) to the length of the shuffle time.

Has anyone else seen this effect? It was the only one I witnessed, although I didn't visit all of my scheduled stops on this recent trip.

A question to anyone who would like to venture an answer: This countermeasure was implemented prior to publication, which means that the casino had foreknowledge of what the book contained. What would be the speculative answer as to how they might have acquired this?

I have my own opinion, but am curious to other's opinions.

Would you e-mail me the casino? This is something that I'd like to keep an eye on.

How long before? I'm wondering if perhaps one of the preview copies that went out for the purpose of soliciting quotes found its way into the hands of a casino employee. We received our copies several months prior to publication.

    Odd.

How long before? It was rumored that the Palms started their new shuffle procedure on September 1st. I observed this at a later date.

The Monte Carlo also implemented a new shuffle, but I have no foreknowledge of "when" they started it.

Other casinos, on my recent journeys, appear to have changed their shuffle procedures. Some are more noticiable than others. Some have only made what I would call "cosmetic" changes, but it appears that it is the conclusion by Vegas (and some other Nevada locations) to take some precautions in their attempt to affect "key" cards.

Perversely, although I'm not as proficient as I'd like to be, it appeared to increase the trackability of their shuffles. So yes, they have taken "ace prediction" countermeasures, but at some expense to actual tracking. Or so it seems to me.

I'll have to take some time to go and check these out; I haven't played a multi-deck shoe at either place since earlier this year. Will post the shuffles in ProNet when I get them.

I agree that there is usually a trade-off for the casino when it comes to shuffling. For a shuffle of fixed duration, more time can be spent undermining sequential information, or more time can be spent undermining compositional information. It is difficult to achieve both ends with the same shuffle action. Or, at least, most shuffle actions do not serve both purposes in equal degree.
