    Wolverine: no experience necessary!

Thought Don (& Bettie) would like this...

A job posting for the new Red Rock casino in Summerlin states that "no experience" is necessary for the position of "Shift Manager."

I'm sure Joe P and the rest of the local AP crowd will give them PENTY of experience quickly.

    Yikes!

Don is so FOND of shift managers and is quite supportive of pit people.

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone who has more respect and admiration for them.

LOL!! The guy with no experience, who responds to the ad, will probably be OVERqualified. :-)

That's probably for one, or both, of the following reasons:

    1. Those with no previous experience are more easily brainwashed. "Repeat after me: 'Card counters are devil spawn. Card counters are devil spawn.'"

    2. More likely, they can be paid less for less (no) experience. My personal experience with casinos is that they are cheap bastards when it comes to spending money on their own staff; they'd rather spend it on their customers.

When I first moved out here, my experience back in Chicago was in the food-service industry. I'd managed a small place, and did a little bit of everything, so I figured I'd easily find a job in the huge LV market. One place ? a major Strip resort previously owned by Wynn ? offered me a joke of a salary with a 52-hour week requirement as assistant manager. After hearing that, I started applying for waitstaff jobs, knowing I could make more with less work and a more flexible schedule. A couple weeks later, this same house called me back with better pay for the Assistant Food and Beverage Director position, a pretty big deal in a major resort, but I'd have to work grave. It's not the first time I gave up a potentially lucrative job over quality of life, and it won't be the last!

    Happy to oblige!
