    Praying Mantis: Question on Surrender

Tonite while reading BJA, Chap 10 (Again!) it hit upon something I have often thought about but never asked the question before. So, here goes.

We all know here that non-APs do NOT play surrender rules correctly and the house will increase their drop if they offered it, even in spite of counters. Question is...WHY don't they offer it? Seems like a win-win for all involved. House makes more money and so do we.

Are they so scared of counters that they would make a decision that will ultimately HURT themselves, just to spite us?

Now, before you go saying that casino management aren't the smartest people in the world, I would agree, to a point. But, there are very knowledge casino management types, ZMan and even Shift Mgr, here, are a couple of very savvy and do know better.

As always, Don...I always get something from the BJ Bible everytime I read it! Thanx.

And, so I wrote in BJA3, to try to entice more houses into seeing the error of their ways. Ever try reasoning with casino personnel? It's a particularly serious waste of brain cells. Note that, with myriad changes of every conceivable variety, to their games, management, hotel, etc., since the day they opened their doors (1966?), Caesars Palace has ALWAYS offered surrender on all of its shoe games.

Of course. They make it every day, in hundreds of casinos, when they offer poor to mediocre penetration on all games, where, if pen were better, they would make infinitely more money, through playing more hands and shuffling less frequently, producing less "down time." Elementary, but they're too ignorant to understand.

Too late!! I hadn't read all the way down, and you can't expect me to read TWO full paragraphs about casino management without calling them imbeciles, can you?! :-)

Well, Billy always offered surrender at the Aladdin and Maxim, while he was there. I don't know where Shift Manager works, so I can't speak for him.

I used to say the same thing about "The Theory of Blackjack," which I would reread, cover to cover, at least once a year.
