    Hollywood: QUESTION FOR THE ROOM?

Going back in your memories, what are the most consistant loses you can remember?

Or put another way, what are the worse losing streaks you have ever had?????

    Just curious,

Not the worst but in the last 3 weeks I have dropped $18,000 in about 100 hours of play in a $100 max bet casino. Fairly rough losing streak. I lost for 12 days straight. SM

Not trying to be funny here, either.

I am a Newbie and recently returned from only my third trip with an advantage. I won the first two trips and was feeling pretty good about my abilities.

Needless to say, this last trip (a 50+ unit loss) brought me down to earth and I noticed my hat size shrunk, as well.

Yes, I know alot about the shrinking of hat sizes.

But, as a piece of advice. One of the things I do is keep a very detailed log of wins and losses. It really comes in handy after losses because when I look back and see the fluctuations, it's real obvious that this business of getting beaten up is nothing more then SD at work and it always and I mean always comes back around.

So if I sustain 5 loses in a row, when I look back I can see over the years that this has happened many many times and it's just the way it will always work.

I was playing last week and the count was so rediculously high that there could hardly be any small cards left. And we were right near the end of the cut with excellent pen. Naturally I had my max bet out there.

It was so unbeleavable, the remaineder of the hands that were left, that dealer found every small card left to make his hands. If I could have watched it in slow motion, I was thinking I would catch him taking the cards out of his sleeve.

Then I thought about it and started laughing to myself. Because this is life we have chosen. And it's just the way it works.

I went back to my log book and checked my notes. I started smiling again, because in my notes I could see this has happened to me so many times I can't keep track.

But, when I get to the bottom line i'm still way way ahead. And I say "how can that be"? but it is. And that's how I know what we have learned and been taught works.

The end of the day don't mean shit. It's the end of the year that we all shine. .

I definatly know the feeling...I play the Uston APC playing deeply dealt DD 85%+ and have had TRUE counts up around 30 and got noting but stiff after stiff.. of course stiffs are very likely in high counts but they can test your patience. Yesterday I was playing 6 deck and on the last round spread to 4X100 only to watch the dealer pull 21 to my 7 pat hands (after splitting aces on one hand and 10s on another) but somehow I actually managed to pull ahead for the day. Now I am up a little over 10K for the last 3 days of play. But still down for the month. THE SWINGS IN THIS GAME CAN BE HUGE DON'T KID YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!! SM

That seems to be the standard answer, but, I tell you, when you get beatup you start questioning your advantage and whether or not you are playing correctly. Every session on the last trip that I got beat, I reanalyzed and played correctly, so I can't complain. I got so sick of 14, 15 and 16, I wanted to puke! Of course the guys to my left or right would get 20 or blackjack...

I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me.
But I will put it in a nutshell.
I'm sitting at a table with an amatuer. The poor guy is getting murdered.

He loses about 8 doubles in a row. So with a nice size bet out there, he gets an eleven against th dealer 10. For the first time the guy hesitates. Of all people, he asks the dealer.
    "What should I do here"

He got an answer I loved. The dealer said

"let me tell you how this works buddy, if you just hit it you're gonna get a 10. If you double the next card is a 6." It just seemed so funny and appropriate at the time.

I'm not a math guy, but I believe in the math. And the math don't lie. If you continue to play, in the big picture you will be a winner.

Since I became a counter, I have had numerous losing sessions, many losing weeks and months. But I have NEVER had a losing year. That's why being properly financed is so significant.
The losing streaks will be offset by the winning streaks, but if you are doing it right there is no way you can be a loser at the end.

There is no way I could be successful year after year if the system did not work. The math would simply catch up with me in the other direction.

    Bettie: Wins and Losses

Reminds me of the Fall 2001 Blackjack Forum, probably the most purely entertaining of all the Forums. The cover story is "Wins and Losses: True Tales from the Trenches," and it has 36 pages of the most memorable wins and losses from names like Grosjean, Hyland, Haywood, Curtis, Blaine, and many others. Some truly great (and heart-wrenching) stories.

If anyone is interested in this kind of thing, I have plenty of issues. For members of Don's Domain, just $5, including first-class shipping - drop me a line at [email protected].

    That's reassuring, for sure.

That's what I believe. Of course, my wife is still suspicious. Especially, when last trip she came out a winner playing a "good" basic strategy game. That's what's troubling. She doesn't even play "perfect" and still wins. I am the, "so-called", EXPERT and lost 50 units...go figure...

A couple just finishes playing in the casino. They get up to there room and the husband says.
    "How did you do"?
The wife says "I lost $2000.00" The husband replies. "you stupid idiot, I can't believe you lost $2 thousand dollars"
The wife says "how did you do"? The husband says
    "I lost $3000.00"
she replies "Then why the hell are you yelling at me" at which time he YELLED.

"BECAUSE I KNOW HOW TO GAMBLE"

Standard Deviant: Re: QUESTION FOR THE ROOM?

Five months ago today, I was up $16k. Today, 229 hours of play later, I'm down $18k. So that's a $34k losing streak. Over $100/hour. Ouch!

Believe me I've questioned and requestioned EVERYTHING about my game, my game selection, and my casino selection many times. Conclusion continues to be that I'm picking the best casinos I can (I don't live in Vegas; can only travel there occasionally), picking best games (with exception that I'll discuss in a minute), using BJRM, even used SBA to sim my exact game and betting system, know and use 60-70 indices, and learning more as I go. Just have to shrug it off and keep on plugging. I've had some terrific positive runs, but this one stinks! Over half of the negative run is my fault; I bumped up my betting units too quickly after the bankroll got high enough to have virtually zero ROR for the units I'd been playing. Got greedy, decided to make a run at the higher units to see if I could grow my bankroll REALLY fast, and I "crapped out."

Learned that lesson the hard way. Risk of ruin should be tiny, single digit percentages, and anything higher is for recreational players. At least that's my opinion. I'm now playing much more conservatively, but of course that means it'll be awhile before I see positive territory again. Fortunately, I like playing, like the cat-and-mouse challenge, like the whole thing. So I'll get back...
