    I definitely agree that the rule "index of +3 for hands which contain 6" would most likely apply only to 2 and 3-card hands.

    "So first you need to find a new rule for this case. Overall, this is not worth it since there are few occasions in which hitting is better than standing. The best rule is to always stand."

    I have thought that for simplicity one could probably just class 4 or more-card hands with non 6 containing 3-card hands and use an index of -2. Do you agree?

    Cacarulo: A Rule for 4-card 16s

    Below are all the 4-card possibilities a 16 can be made of in single deck. The rule I found is that we should HIT any hand containing 66, 67 and 68. There is only one exception: T222 that we should also HIT. The rest should be STAND.

    Thank you very much for your interest, and very much for the data.

    The only way I personally know to calculate the indices we are seeking is to have index information available for each card combination as well as the occurrence rate and hand composition data you provide. I am by no means sophisticated mathmatically. I do not know how to calculate the indices from the stand/hit data you present, assumiing that is possible. Are you by any chance aware of a simple formula for this conversion?

    Very interesting result, but not surprising given that 6,7, and 8 will bust player's hand. With those cards gone it is more attractive to hit. 9 and 10 containing hands, which also bust the player, are not present in 4-card 16's, so they do not appear here.

    However, these hands (those containing 66,67, and 68) constitute only 5% of 4-card hands (calculation based on your data.) They most likely can be ignored at their very low cummulative incidence of 0.02% of all hands (again calculated using data you provided.) This contrasts with the total incidence of 4-card 16's of 0.4% (your data.)

    Thus the only index that might be important is the mean index of the all of the 4-card hands. If the result is easy to remember in the context of our current scheme it would make a correspondingly painless addition to the effective play of the hand, and as such might be worthwhile.

    You're right, you need more info in order to calculate the index. Unfortunately, I don't have it.

    Maybe it's important in an academic sense. I'd simply stand.
