Bettie: Ken Uston's Home Video '83

    Hey gang!

I recently came across a copy of Ken Uston's Home Video '83, subtitled The 20 Best New Games and How to Beat Them. I was puzzled at first to see that it also said it was "From the Bestselling Author of Mastering Pac-Man," but upon further investigation found that this was indeed written by THE Ken Uston.

Now, I'm a bit younger than many of you, so I did not realize that Uston had written more of these kinds of books (video games and computers) than he did blackjack books. I'm sure no one else is surprised, and I'm just showing my ignorance/age.

At any rate, should someone want to buy it as a keepsake, the cover price is $2.95. Except for a crease in the back cover, it's in really good condition. Paperback, 210 pages. I'll ship it however you like (cheap media mail, priority, UPS), as long as you pay for it.

Just email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

suicyco maniac: Speaking of old books......

I have been going back and reading all the books in my collection. I noticed someting that caught my eye in the 1984 Ed of "The beginners guide to winning Blacjack" By Stanley Roberts. On page 136 he has a chart for analyzing the casino. Basicly it is a point system for different rules, pen, etc. What caught my eye was a shuffle point of 1/2 is minus 100 points dealing out all the cards is plus 100 points but insuance is plus 210 points and the real kicker is BJ pays 2:1 is 206 points. Who in the hell thinks insurance is more important then 2:1 I would rather have the 1/2 deck 2:1 game with no Ins then a deep game with Ins. He says a game should have at least a 300 rating to play but that minus 104 game sure looks tempting to me...SM

You have to take the advice from where it comes.

I hear that!! However were it not for Stanley Roberts or is that Sludikoff with his "Gambling times" magazine in the late 70s-early 80s I would have never started on this path. His interviews with Ken Uston, Thorps "mathmatics of gambling" articles and several other BJ references in his magazine was the first place where I learned this game could be beat. I have learned a lot more from other authors of the game but I will always look back on that magazine as the catalyst for my BJ lifestyle. SM
