    veinte-uno: Question for the forum

Ok, I have two questions that have been bugging me for years and I can't quite find helpful information on it. If anyone could help (references, direct advice, etc...) I would appreciate it.
I am a strict KO player. I only cover play when necessary and often get extreme heat. My wife also plays with me and is as equally proficient in counting. Obviously we can't follow the same system (or similar systems) because our correlated betting will bring us both down. So I have decided to give her a less effective count method known as "Ace-Five". I am sure some of you have heard of this method of counting aces against fives. She bases her bet according to the advantage of aces over fives. My questions are:
    1. How can I use her information to further
my advantage? (I occasionally raise my bet
if her bets are high, signaling a higher amount of aces than fives. But I am looking for a more precise method. Any references, advice, etc.. would be very helpful)
    2. And is there a better solution to my
problem? (Other systems she can use with
more of an advantage that doesn't follow the
    basic high low format?)

Harold Harvey: A couple of ideas

Your wife could use a ?straight tens? insurance count, and pass the count to you for insurance purposes. This would increase your insurance efficiency to 100%. Unfortunately, if your wife were playing a separate hand, you would then both be taking insurance like the Bopsie Twins. You could disguise this artifact somewhat by having the lowest bettor make insurance ?mistakes? occasionally by insuring good hands in bad insurance situations.

If your wife is really ? equally proficient in counting ?, why don?t you simply play at separate tables to a common bank? That solution would remove the additional unwanted heat generated by ?unusual? bet correlation between the separate hands of yours and your wife?s. It would also reduce the standard deviation of your results. Or is the point of your question that you want to play at the same table?

play together often. As Harold suggests, rather than having her count, too, we 'use' her to keep a separate, side-count of aces (I like Harold's idea a lot, tho). She signals her number (of aces gone) to me by using chip-stacks (we've practiced this at home), which we use to make bet-sizing decisions. We concentrate mostly on DD, where this seems to have a lot of 'bang for the buck.'

We rarely get heat, I think, because we try very hard to look like tourists, including the way we dress (she wears a fanny pack, for example), chatting up the dealers about their hometowns, etc.

... better to each play at a seperate tables with similar bet-sizing (as we have discussed BEFORE). zg

    veinte-uno: clarification

We do play at separate tables. (sometimes even at separate casinos)
I am just looking for advice for the times when we do occasionally play together. (She likes to play with me and we seem to think it adds to the "dumb tourist" camouflage when we both act stupid.)
    Thanks for the advice

On those occaisions you are reducing win and increasing risk. Notwithstanding, one of you should portray the copulsive bettor and grab chips from the other and slam them onto the bet box, bickering shamelessly about who's fault the last hand was, etc. zg

I realize that the 2 of us playing at the same table increases ROR, but playing at separate tables would decrease the 'fun' factor (hard to quantify) and, almost certainly, land me in the doghouse, big-time.

Nonetheless, I submit that, by working/playing 'together'--that is, she's counting the As, while I'm counting the cards--increases our betting efficiency enough to offset the increased ROR.

Anyway... it seems to work for us (both on and off the BJ tables).

    Claymore,
Playing seperate tables with good DD conditions would be optimal for a number of reasons. But if playing together is more fun and better for the relationship, than kudos.

Harold Harvey had a good idea of an insurance count. There's an unbalanced 2 level running count only system that's just as effective as the Ten's count for insurance purposes. If your wife can keep an accurate running count, this may work for you.
