Greasy John: Question on the never used room comp

If you recieve a room comp, check in and later check out without ever using the room, does housekeeping usually notify the front desk...

or should I leave a towel on the floor, mess up the bed and then leave?

Or does the hotel even care?

I would think most would not care.
I would think it's not really worth the time to run up to the room to throw a towel in the floor.
As far as comps, you have taken the room. It was not available to the hotel.
Housekeeping probably does not tell anyone, if the maid goes into a clean room, it gives them a little break!
