    Greasy John: Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal

Just a little tidbit. I had meant to go to Marie Calendars at 600 E. Sahara and Tony Romas at 620 E. Sahara to detemine once and for all where the 1982 car bombing took place. (I'll bet it was Marie Calendars and somehow that didn't have the cachet that Tony Romas has.) I must admit that I just read the book "The Enforcer" last year, but I forgot to notice where Lefty got bombed.

(Mabye there's only one restaurant at one of the above addresses and not the other; that would make it easier--unless one has been since razed.)

If anyone cares to speculate on which eatery was the location, just beware. Different publications and articles on different web pages list both these locations.

According to author Dennis Griffin and FBI agent Dennis Arnoldy, the site was 620 E. Sahara Ave, Tony Roma's. It was only a block and a half from the site of the arrest of the "Hole in the Wall Gang" of Tony Spilotro, which eventually toppled the mob in Vegas. Spilotro was killed by his bosses 4 years after his arrest for letting those dominos begin to topple.

I decided to consult Nicholas Pileggi's book, Casino. On page 12 he writes, "Before his car was blown up outside Marie Callender's restaurant on East Sahara Ave on October 4, 1982..." Then on page 322, Pileggi mentions how Frank Rosenthal used to go to Tony Roma's two or three days a week, and that this is where the bombing occured. He goes on to mention that Tony Roma's is across from Marie Callender's.

I only wanted to consult Pileggi's book--I'm well aware of the history of the Stardust, Allen Glick and Tony Spilotro. But now I'm reading the book.

I also took another look at the book The Enforcer, and therein it refers to the Tony Roma's location.

I'm going to Vegas next month and I'm going to visit these two establishments to get some clarification. I's possible that while Rosenthal was getting his ribs to go from Tony Roma's he was parked in the Marie Callender's lot.

Mr. X: The parking lot is used by both

Tony Roma's and Marie Callender's are quite close to each other. They essentially share a mutual parking lot. The parking lot is all there is between the two. If one restaurant is busy, it's not unusual to park closer to the restaurant you are NOT going to. I use to frequent the area a lot, I'd go to Marie Callender's until they stopped making Boston Creme Pie, my favorite. I liked Tony Roma's, until he fumbled that snap. And I still park there to walk down a few yards to see my friend Sara day shift at the Imperial Chinese Massa...er, I mean to go to the Tiger Lily store.

I just checked out "The Enforcer" from the library again. I read the book last year and decided to read it again. This book is about Tony Spilotro, the FBI and the Chacigo mob. It's very good.
