Beauregad Dommit: Cameras, videos, and cellphone

I'm reading a chapter about cheating the slots in Kevin Mitnick's book about hacking scams, and I'm curious:

Is it permitted to use cameras, video cams, and cellphones in the Vegas casinos?

    Thanks, Gard

It varies from casino to casino. For example, the Hard Rock isn't very strict because people take photos of the displays all the time. They're everywhere, and the HR is a very small casino. Of course, if you are taking a picture of a slot machine, you will be stopped.

I took a photo once of a machine topper at the Fiesta Henderson because it advertised one of our products (VPinsider.com), but since there were security personnel present, I made sure to explain what I was doing first. I've taken pictures of royals when I play VP, and of friends in front of displays, and have never once been questioned. Of course, in no instance was I attempting to take a picture of anything other than what it looked like I was doing. The casinos expect pictures - after all, they built their places that grandiose for a purpose.

Cellphones are permitted everywhere except while at the tables (you are expected to step away from the table if you take/make a call) and not in the sportsbooks.

I don't recall offhand seeing anyone use a video camera, but many digital cameras have video features. I've used mine at concerts plenty of times.

Trapper: Many phones have video features too.

Whatever the casinos may want, the horse has left the barn on this one. Today's phones are cameras, video cameras, computers and anything else customers want them to be. Casinos aren't going to ban phones (except their use at the table). They could block coverage but it is unlikely they would try that.
