    dog: ques. on room comps

Are free room comps free or are there taxes or other charges? If there are taxes, what is the rate?

Room comps in Las Vegas normally cover the room and all taxes - the room is indeed "free," although most hotels want a credit card imprint or a cash deposit to cover incidentals such as phone calls.

Follow up: Do locals receive the same amount of comps, including rooms as non locals?

Generally, no. Some casinos market primarily to out-of-towners (most of the strip properties), while others (Stations, Coast properties, etc.) cater to locals. Obviously, room comps are of limited value to locals, so the comps are geared more toward meals, drawings, bounceback cash, etc. Of course, there are exceptions.

Some casinos market to both locals and visitors, with offers appropriate for each.

Some Station casinos are now charging a "resort fee" ranging from $4.95 to $20 (Red Rock). I am charged this fee at Santa Fe and Sunset if I use a mailed offer from marketing. These offers are a result of VP play and the front desk will not relent on the charge for me anyway. I consider this fee to be one of the great ripoffs in Las Vegas.
